The army reserves – a proud long tradition

The Army Reserves can trace its beginning back to 1908 when the Army was
authorized by Congress to establish a reserve corps of medical officers.
This was that nation’s first federal reserve and within four years, a regular
Army Reserve would be authorized, as well.
The first time that the Army Reserve would be called to service was during
the 1916 tensions between Mexico and the United States.
The purpose of the call up was to provide additional strength in numbers.
This first mobilization was a very important development and showed
the potential for the Army Reserve.
The National Defense Act of 1916 would establish the Officers and Enlisted Reserve Corps,
as well as the Reserve Officers Training Corps. When America entered World War I,
there are over 50,000 reservists. Just one decade earlier, there had been none.
By the end of the war, the reservists who served would number over 170,000.
Since that time, Army Reservists have participated in every major conflict involving the United States.
Only about 11,000 couldn’t serve, with some being too old or serving as Congressmen and judges.
There were many Army Reservists who would become well known for their military services.
Theodore Roosevelt was the first general to land on D-Day. Ronald Regan would serve during World War II,
but his fame would come later in life. By the end of the war, over half of the soldiers fighting
would be from the Army Reserve.
During the Korean War, almost a quarter of a million Reservists would be called to duty.
While this war was still ongoing, Congress started changing the structure of the Army Reserve.
There would now be three types of Reservists – the Ready Reserve, the Standby Reserve, and
the Retired Reserve. The President would have the authority to call up
one million Reservists – from all branches of the Armed Forces – to active duty when necessary.

Vietnam would see the smallest numbers of Reservists called up, but there were still 33 Reserve units
deployed to this conflict. The next major call up would be in 1990, with the invasion of Kuwait.
Over 84,000 Army Reservists were called up and supported all branches of the Armed Forces
in locations around the world.
Since that time, the Army Reserve has almost always been engaged somewhere around the world.
Deployments have included Iraq, Somalia, Haiti, Bosnia, and Yugoslavia. Currently,
there are thousands of Army Reservists serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
If you or a loved one has served in the Army Reserve, then you should consider honoring that service
with an Army ring. One of the best things about these rings is that they can be customized for each
individual soldier. You can choose between several precious metals, semi-precious stones, insignia and
emblems, and even engraving on the inside of band.
It’s easy to order an Army ring online and you can have it shipped almost anywhere in the world.
There is no better gift for a loved one whose service, dedication, and sacrifice have
helped keep this country safe.

The United States Coast Guard Pacific Area Unit – Keeping the pacific safe

When the California Gold Rush brought an immense influx of
people from the east, it also came with general
lawlessness to the seaside villages. Abandoned ships
and smugglers were common along the west coast of the
United States and this coastline was
not safe for any seaward travelers.
In 1848, the Revenue Cutter Lawrence arrived in its new homeport,
San Francisco, as a representative of the federal government.
This would be the first presence of the United States Coast
Guard in the Pacific. The list of assignments was long – including
those of judge and customs agents. The crew of the Revenue Cutter
Lawrence would do whatever it took to maintain some sense
of order during this very chaotic period on the West Coast.
Today, the Coast Guard’s Pacific Area Headquarters do not operate from a
cutter, but instead from Alameda, California on Coast Guard Island.
This is located just across the bay from San Francisco. In spite of
what many people may think, the operations of the Coast Guard are
not limited to the southern part of the East Coast of the United States.
The Coast Guard is responsible for 74 million square miles of PACAREA.
This area runs from the Arctic Circle to South American and west to
the Far East. Because of streamlining measures, the units and staff of
the 11th District are now part of the Pacific Area staff.
This includes Coast Guard units in California, Utah, Arizona, and Nevada.

Coast Guard Island isn’t just home to the Pacific Area Headquarters, though. You’ll also find the Joint Interagency Task Force West, the Maritime Defense Zone Pacific, MSO San Francisco Bay, Maintenance and Logistics Command Pacific, and four High Endurance Cutters. Over 27,000 personnel of various active duty, reserve, and civilian distinctions are here. There are a total of ten High Endurance Cutters, six Medium Endurance Cutters, 14 HH-60 Jayhawks, 27 HH-65A Dolphins, 2 Polar Icebreakers, 29 WPB’s, and 12 Buoy tenders.
The inherent, diverse missions which the Coast Guard undertakes require the highest level of commitment and service. For active duty Coast Guard members assigned here, they can be on patrol in the Persian Gulf or breaking through the ice in the Arctic Ocean. They escort supply vessels to research bases, provide training for other maritime nations, and a variety of other tasks.
Because the Pacific Ocean is so large (it covers over 35% of the surface of the Earth), the challenges that face the men and women of the Coast Guard are very diverse. Law enforcement will always have a significant role for Coast Guard members, as will environmental and humanitarian needs.
If you or a loved on serves with the Coast Guard Pacific Area, then consider ordering one of the many styles of Coast Guard Rings. The Pacific Area emblem can be engraved right on the side or even under the stone on the top. You can add a special message inside the band and you’ll love how easy it is to place your order for Coast Guard rings. Show a family member or friend how much you appreciate what they do every day.

United States Navy Football – A Very Proud Tradition
The first Navy football game took place in 1879. Since that time, the familiar blue and
gold football uniforms have helped created one of the most familiar traditions
in the history of college athletics. However, these Navy football players aren’t just
scoring on the gridiron, they are also some of the finest acadamians in the country, too.
This unique combination of athletics and academics ensures that only the
best of the best will graduate from the United States Naval Academy and
become the Navy’s finest.
All of the students at the Naval Academy will choose one of 43 different majors that
focus on 19 fields of study. In order to compete in one of the many athletic programs,
midshipmen must meet the stringent NCAA eligibility requirements, including those requirements
that deal with academic progress. If the eligibility requirements are not met,
there could be sanctions against the entire team, including fines and penalties.
The familiar blue and gold colors of Navy athletics were adopted back in 1892.
The Naval Academy Class of 1890 first used these colors and within two years, the Athletic Association
conferred with the Cadets to adopt these colors as the now familiar Academy colors.
The mascot has a different history. In 1893, a goat known as “El Cid” (The Chief) was
used as the Navy athletic teams’ mascot.

This goat is credited with helping the Navy football team beat their long time rival, the Army, that year.
However, there are other animals that have served as the team mascots.
These include a dog, a carrier pigeon, and two cats. In 1904, goats became the permanent mascot for
all of the Navy athletic teams. There are three goats that currently serve as mascots: Bill XXXII, XXXIII, and
XXXIV. Fifteen goathandlers take care of these mascots. Those goathandlers are five midshipmen
that are chosen from each class of first, second, and third year students.
There’s a lot of training that goes with becoming a goathandler and a bit of respect, as well!
There are a few other traditions that always accompany the Navy Football team. For example,
the “E” Bell rings whenever Navy beats Army in any of the three seasons of sports.
This bell is from the bridge of USS Enterprise, a famed World War II aircraft carrier.
It’s been a tradition since 1950. The Gokokuji Bell is a replica of a bell that was brought to
the United States by Commodore Matthew Perry in 1854. The original bell, which was donated to
the Academy by his widow, was returned to Okinawa in 1987. This bell is also rung each time the
team scores a football victory over their Army rivals. This bell sits in front of Bancroft Hall in Annapolis.
Midshipmen, also called Mids, is what the Navy sports teams are called. The members of the
various varsity teams who earn a varsity letter also receive an “N-Star” if they are part of a team
that beats an Army team in one of the many “Star” competitions. In recent years, the Navy has
certainly been a dominate force against the Army’s West Point teams.
The Navy has won the N-Star Competition for the last twelve years.
One of the best ways to recognize a Navy football team member is with Navy football rings.
You can easily design a Navy football ring online and have it shipped directly to the cadet at Annapolis.
Imagine their surprise when their Navy football ring arrives!

Warrant Officer

The Army Field Officer or Headquarters Clerk,
as well as the Pay Clerk, both preceded the Army
Warrant Officer.
The grade and rank of Warrant Officer was introduced to the Army in 1918. The Act that established this rank also established the Army Mine Planter Service, which was part of the Coastal Artillery Corps.
The Warrant Officers were to serve as masters, mates, and engineers on of the vessels. Initially, there were three pay
grades authorized. The Warrant Officer rank and grade was given to Field Clerks and Pay Clerks so they would be full members of the military.
In 1941, the Army decided to redefine the position of the Warrant Officer. There were two grades created, a junior grade and a Chief grade. By 1942, Warrant Officers were in forty different occupational areas. The grade of Flight Officer was created to the Army Air Force in 1942, as well.
Most of the first flight officers that graduated from the many Army Air Force flight training programs were commissioned as Second Lieutenants, but the remainder were given an appointment as a Flight Officer. Once the Warrant Officers had some flying time under their belts, many were commissioned as lieutenants.
By November of 1942, the Warrant Officer rank order was finally determined as being above an enlisted grade, but lower than all commissioned officers. In 1949, grades of W-3 and W-4 were added. The pay grade of W-5 wasn’t added until 1991.

Today, the Army Warrant Officer fills a number of different roles – a combat leader, a technical expert, an advisor, and a trainer. One of the reasons why Warrant Officers are so valuable and effective in the Army is because they can fulfill these different roles.
Over 45 occupational specialties have Warrant Officers and they serve from the section level to the upper echelons of the Army. Many command vessels and aircraft. Others are in charge of smaller units and specialized teams. In a change from traditional titles, Army Warrant Officers are addressed as Mister or the female equivalent.
There are now two basic types of Warrant Officers in the Army – aviators and technicians. In order to qualify as an applicant for technicians, the soldier must have a rank of E-5 or Sergeant. The aviators must meet high standards for aptitude and medical requirements. Unlike most of the other aviation programs in the Armed Forces, the Army Warrant Officer aviation program does not require a college degree, but it is recommended.
There are Warrant Officers in other branches of the United States Military. While this designation is not as common as it once was, there is no doubt that these military members fulfill a very specific, technical role in the Armed Forces.
For those that accept this appointment, there is a great deal of pride and honor that comes with this special rank. One of the best ways to recognize their service and dedication is with one of the many styles of Warrant Officer rings.
The unique design and beautiful craftsmanship are the perfect visual reminder of this special area of the United States Military.

Classic Military Rings – some things never go out of style

Did a family member serve in the United States military?
Perhaps you have one of their military rings as a heirloom.
Classic military rings are often considered a family treasure,
as they are part of the family’s history.
Many of today’s military members prefer the classic look for their own military rings and
it’s not as difficult as you might think to find one that is just perfect.
The first military rings date back to the early Roman and Egyptian empires.
During that time, rings were a symbol of military honor and only one was worn.
Eventually, the rings became a symbol of societal status.
By the Middle Ages, military rings were popular throughout Europe and were often used
as seals for various legal documents. In the United States, the first military rings
were given to graduates of the United States Military Academy in 1835. Since that time,
the military ring has become a tradition for all military academies,
but also for those that graduate from basic training.
In addition, military rings are often given as gifts to recognize one’s accomplishments within the military,
such as participation in a specialize unit or in a particular military campaign.

Classic military rings are generally considered signet rings .This style is very elegant and formal.
The top of the ring usually has the seal for the branch of the military that the member serves in.
The seal may be engraved or raised, although the raised seals are a bit easier to keep clean.
The sides of the ring may have nothing or there may be insignia s or emblems engraved.
The classic military rings generally have nothing on the sides. These rings are made from gold, silver, or valadium.
Usually, each branch has a specific color of precious metal that is preferred,
such as silver for the United States Air Force. However, it just depends on the recipient’s preferences.
Ordering classicmilitary rings is very simple, as you can place an order online. You will also have the option
of personalizing the inside of the band with a short message or the recipient’s initials.
You can have the ring shipped almost anywhere in the world, which is a great option if your loved one
is serving overseas on one of today’s many deployments. It usually takes two or three weeks for the ring to ship,
so keep that in mind when you place your order.
Another thing to consider is using an antique class ring for part of the new ring.
Many ring designers can melt down an older ring and make the new ring out of it.
This is a great tribute to a family member and will ensure that the two rings are together to carry on the tradition.
Some veterans donate their rings to the military academy they attended to be melted down and
used for a new set of class rings. In closing, classic military rings will never go out of style.
It’s part of the military tradition. It’s a great way to show your loved one how proud you are
of their service and sacrifice.

Army military intelligence: collection, analysis, processing, and dissemination of information

The USAICoE stands for the United States Army Intelligence of Excellence.
It’s the Army’s school for training their military intelligence personnel.
It has been located at Fort Huachuca, Arizona since 1993 after moving
from Fort Devens, MA. Any enlisted personnel or officers who are
in the military intelligence field attend this school, as well as many
international students in military exchange programs.
AIT students who attend school here become Human Intelligence Collectors,
Intelligence Analysts, and UAV controllers. Other personnel may be
a member of the Military Intelligence Corps. Military Intelligence utilizes
a number of different information collection and analysis mediums to commanders
in order to help guide and offer direction in the commander’s decisions.
Available data is used to determine a course of action or to provide an answer to focused questions.
The commander’s specific needs for intelligence are considered and then incorporated into
the intelligence collection process, as well as the analysis and dissemination of the information.
There are several different types of military intelligence – strategic, operational, and tactical.
Strategic intelligence deals with political assessments, economics, and foreign nations’ intentions and
military capabilities. It could be tactical, technical, scientific, diplomatic, or sociological,
but all of the information is used in conjunction with known facts, such as demographics, geography, and
industrial capacities.
Operational intelligence is more focused on support for an expeditionary commander.
Tactical intelligence supports operations on a tactical level. Personnel in this area of military
intelligence are usually attached to headquarters. Current threat levels are scrutinized and
this information is then passed onto those that will be out into hostile territories.
Intelligence tasking will focus on a number of different variables, with the common goal to be the collection,
analysis, processing, and dissemination of information that will ultimately influence planning and
operational strategy. A great deal of information is available to the public, such as the tonnage and
weaponry of most capital ships. The same is true for aircraft. Photographs can project speed and
range, maps can be used for various information gathering tactics, and counter-intelligence services
make sure that some information available to our enemies will lead them down a misrepresented path.
However, the media continues to be a primary source of information, as well.

Many people have a common misconception when it comes to the Army Military Intelligence Group.
It is not full of spies and James Bond-like gadgets. Information gathering comes from a number of simple and

The History of the United States Army Band

Even before the United States Army was created in 1775, musicians have had
an integral role in the military. From the drummers in the Signal Corps
during the Revolutionary War to the World War II brass bands, music has
always been part of the Army.
The United States Army Band members fulfill a special need in today’s
Army – they make music while serving their country. Some performances
are for ceremonial reasons, while other performances may be to help boost
the soldiers’ morale. The history of the United States Army band is long and proud.
The first military band for America was commanded by none other than Benjamin Franklin.
Fife players and various other musicians marched with over 1,000 soldiers.
This was the first documented appearance of musicians in the military.
There were also several regiments in the Army that performed for ceremonies and other special occasions.
During the Revolutionary War in 1775, the musicians created the steady, pounding rhythms that
helped the new milita to drill. The colonists used military bands to play patriotic arrangements
at rallies to increase support as the war intensified. Some battles, such as the Battle of Bennington,
may have been successful due to the musicians playing well into enemy positions.
By 1777, drums and trumpets were used to control the movements of cavalry regiments. Many times,
drum calls were used instead of verbal commands. The soldiers learned to respond to the beat of the drum.
In 1781, musicians such as drummers and fifers were picked from the ranks and were then exempt
from soldierly duties. During the 1830s, brass instruments were add and it really changed the overall
sound and the size of the band. With a salary of only $8.00 a month for bandsmen,
there was never any shortage of men signing up for this musical duty.

During the Civil War from 1861-1865, the military grew to rely more on military musicians to position
troops and motivate them on to victory. They entertained troops and raised morale.
In fact, some musicians actually played a form of concert while they were in the foremost position
during a battle.
By the 1920s, the Army had implemented a band training program in an attempt to rival the military
bands of Great Britain and France. General John J.
Pershing believed that this training program was essential to helping create an Army Band that would keep
morale high. In fact, one of the most prestigious Army bands to day is called “Pershing’s Own.”
The training was designed by the New York Symphony conductor at the time.
General Pershing’s most significant change in the United States Army band was the increase in members
from 28 to 48, which gave the band a full instrumentation that still exists today.
Through next sixty years, the Army bands would go through even more changes.
These bands would accompany combat units during the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
During Desert Strom and Desert Shield, the bands performed many ceremonies and concerts,
but also helped guard the perimeters. Today, the Army Bands perform for both soldiers and civilians alike.
One of the best ways to recognize a member of this elite group of musical soldiers is with an Army Band ring.
You can create a personalized Army Band ring that any Army musician would be proud to wear.
You can order an Army Band ring online and have it delivered anywhere in the world.

Military promotion gifts – celebrate with your loved one as they make the next rank!

Each branch of the United States Military promotes their servicemen and
women differently. In some branches of the service,
it’s fairly easy to make rank up to a certain level.
However, in other branches, it can be quite difficult to get to that next pay grade and
level of responsibility. No matter how hard it is to get that promotion,
it should be recognized with military promotion gifts.
It’s a reason to celebrate and the right gift can really make the occasion special.

Types of Military Promotion Gifts
The most difficult part of giving a gift for a military promotion is deciding what gift the recipient will enjoy the most.
For some military members, they prefer the simple, sedate gifts that still recognize their accomplishments.
Others may want a gift that lets everyone around them know that they are moving up in the ranks.
Which type of gift best suits your friend or loved one? Perhaps a picture of the serviceman or woman
getting their rank pinned on placed in a gorgeous military picture frame would be a well received gift.
If your military member likes jewelry, there are a variety of pieces available.
You’ll love the selection of rings, watches, earrings, bracelets, and even belly button rings.

The United States Military requires a lot from its
servicemen and women.
Intense training, long deployments overseas, and
subpar living conditions sometimes are often
the norm for these men and women.
However, the service and sacrifice of our military
members helps keep our country safe and secure.
It is because of this that our soldiers, airmen, sailors,
and Marines deserve to be recognized for their service.
A great way to recognize the service of a family member or friend is with customized military rings.

The United States Naval Air Force Pacific and Atlantic Fleets

While the term “ super carrier” is not an official term,
it does accurately reflect the sheer size of these aircraft carriers.
There are currently 11 such ships with a displacement of over 70,000 long tons.
Super carriers are the largest warships ever built and
they operate exactly like a floating city.
The HMS Ark Royal in 1938 was the first ship that was actually called a “supercarrier.”
It was 685 feet in length and had a displacement of 22,000 tons.

It could carry 72 aircraft. By 1943, the term would describe the Midway class,
which came in at a displacement of 45,000 tons.
For what the media and the Navy refer to as a super carrier, the USS United States and
the USS Forrestal were the first two to set the standard.
The USS Forrestal is considered the first operational super carrier.
The USS United States would have been in service at the same time,
but it was actually cancelled before completion.
While the United States is not the only country building supercarriers, there are plans to create
an even more impressive next generation of carriers. These are called the Gerald R. Ford class and
will have a displacement of 100,000 tons. Because of their size, supercarriers are vulnerable
to conventional threats; however, they are more economical to produce than smaller carriers are.
The United States Navy has used supercarriers in every war in the country’s history after 1900.
During Desert Storm, over 3000 sorties were flown off the decks of a supercarrier each month.
These aircraft carriers, such as the USS Ronald Regan, are home to 6,000 sailors and 85 aircraft.
Whenever the United States has a need for military action, humanitarian aid, or disaster relief,
there are generally one or more supercarriers headed that way.
The command organization of a supercarrier is not much different from other areas in the Navy.
The Commanding Officer is in charge of the entire ship; however, he must not only be an unrestricted
line officer, he must also be a naval aviator. He must also have a rank of at least an O-6 or captain.
The Commanding Officer’s orders are carried out through the Executive Officer, who usually also a captain.
There are several departments on an aircraft carrier, all of which ultimately answer to the Commanding Officer.
These departments include Administration, Maintenance, Medical, Communications, Safety, and Navigation.
The aircraft carriers are divided into two fleets: the Naval Air Force United States Pacific Fleet and
the Atlantic Fleet; however, aircraft carriers are not the only ships under these commands.
Each Fleet commands ships, aircraft, helicopters, other equipment,
and personnel all over their side of the globe.
For those that serve in one of the two Fleets, there is a great sense of pride and honor.
One way to recognize their service is with U.S Navy rings. These U.S. Navy rings are very popular and
each can be personalized with different insignias or emblems. You can even include a short message
inside the band. It’s one of the best ways to show your support for those who serve this country every day.

Army Jewelry Honors Dedicated Soldiers, Past and Present
The U.S. Army is the world’s strongest military force, bar none.
Hundreds of thousands of men and women currently serve in this powerful
branch of the military.
Lets not forget U.S. Army
Although many soldiers are stationed within the U.S.,
many others are currently deployed in dangerous combat
zones such as Iraq and Afghanistan.
The lives of these soldiers are on the line every day.
And even the active-duty soldiers, members of the National Guard
and Reservists that are stationed within the United States
could be sent into battle on very short notice, putting them at risk, too.
Let’s not forget about the men and women who served in the U.S. Army in the past, either.
When their time in the service was up, these Army veterans and retirees received
honorable discharges for good reason, having serving honorably
and with distinction in war and peace.

Army jewelry lets us honor our soldiers
Army jewelry lets us honor our soldiers, and many want to wear something more attractive to connect
them to the Army than just the standard-issue dog tags that identify them.
Army men and women love wearing Army jewelry because it lets them show their pride in themselves,
their buddies and their units. But they love it even more when their family and friends give them Army jewelry,
because these gifts show that their service is honored by the people they care for.
All of our soldiers are well trained and dedicated to protecting our freedom at home and abroad.
They have a unique combination of physical strength, mental toughness and superb equipment.
And above all, they have a sense of purpose. When called upon, they consistently respond with the speed,
courage and discipline we associate with the U.S. Army. Army jewelry, with its beautiful but powerful appearance,
perfectly captures the spirit of our soldiers.
No matter when or where a soldier has served, Army rings, tie tacks, lapel pins, necklaces, pendants,
watches, cuff links and other pieces of Army jewelry can commemorate his or her service.
Many types of Army jewelry can be personalized with a soldier’s name, initials, dates of service or other details.
Army jewelry can incorporate a wide assortment of Army:
- emblems
- logos
- insignia
- slogans.
The design of Army jewelry can reflect a man or woman’s service in the Army in a general way,
or it can show membership in a specific battalion, regiment, division or other Army unit.
Army jewelry can also indicate a man or woman’s service in a specific war or armed conflict,
including deployment in Iran, Afghanistan, Vietnam and other combat theaters.
Some pieces of Army jewelry, especially Army rings, tie tacks, lapel pins, cuff links, pendants, and necklaces,
are made of gold or sterling silver. Many include precious or semi-precious gems in their designs,
while others are brightly colored with gorgeous enamels. But no matter what Army jewelry is made of
or how it is designed, Army jewelry is a powerful symbol of a soldier’s service.

The History of the Signal Corps
The Signal Corps owes its origins to Albert James Myer.
This Army doctor invented a unique visual communication system,
known as the “wigwag” when he was serving in Texas during 1856.
This system of flags and torch lights would be put to use during
the Civil War when it was used to direct the bombing of
Confederate positions at Fort Calhoun.
In 1863, Congress finally authorized the Signal
Corps as an active unit until the end of the war.
In 1870, the Signal Corps took on another role as a national weather service.
By 1880, this weather service would garner international acclaim.
The weather service would remain under the command of the Signal Corps until 1891, when
the Department of Agriculture took it over.
The Signal Corps would still be in charge of military meteorology.
The Spanish-American War of 1898 would see the Signal Corps used much more than
it was during the Civil War. However, the Signal Corps did much more than just use flags and
torches to convey messages. In addition to those visual signals,
they were tasked with supplying telegraph and telephone lines, integrating the use of telephones in
combat situations, and used photography for combat purposes.
After the war ended, the Signal Corps were responsible for bringing the first wireless telegraph
system into the Western Hemisphere.
In 1907, the Chief Signal Officer was put in charge of an Aeronautical Division.
The Wright brothers conducted several test flights of the first airplane the Army used and
it was built to the specifications lined out by the Signal Corps. In 1918, the Army turned over this
Aeronautical Division to the Army Air Service.
By World War 1, the Signal Corps were developing radiotelephones. These were infinitely superior
to the radiotelegraphs, the telegraph and telephone were the main means of communications
during World War 1. In 1937, the then-director of the Signal Corps patented the first radar used by the Army.
Before World War II, there were already two sets of radar units in mass production.
By the Vietnam War, the Signal Corps provided radio links that could communicate more than 200 miles apart.

Today, the motto for the Signal Corps remains the same as it was over a hundred years ago:
“Watchful for the Country.” New developments in technology and innovation continue every year.
The Signal Corps fulfill the need for effective, reliable communication in all areas of the military.
They have come a very long way since using flags during the daylight hours and torches at night.
The Signal Corps laboratory is one of the most advanced for the development of communications,
radar, mapping, and photography technology.
For those that are assigned to the Signal Corps, the assignment comes with pride and honor,
as well as responsibility. A fantastic way to recognize this service and dedication is with one of
the beautiful Signal Corps rings that are available.
A Signal Corps ring will become a treasured heirloom that is sure to be passed on to children and
grandchildren.

USS George Washington submarine

The USS George Washington was the lead ship in a class of submarines.
Launched in June 1959, it was named after the first President of the United States.
It was built as a warship and had two commanders.
The Blue crew’s commander was James B. Osborn and
the Gold crew’s commander was John L. From, Jr.
The first mission of the USS George Washington was to test
fire ballistic missiles to ensure the capabilities.
The first Polaris missile launch from a submarine occurred on July 20, 1960.
The second occurred that day as well, impacting an area 1,100 miles away.
The Gold crew of the USS George Washington launched to more missiles on July 30, 1960,
only this time the submarine was submerged.
From then on, the submarine would be loaded with 16 ballistic missiles.
Its first patrol was 66 days long. When arriving at the Naval Submarine Base New London,
the Gold crew took over. This would continue until 1964 until the USS George Washington
was put into refuel after cruising over 100,000 nautical miles.
When she next departed, she would transfer commands to the United States Pacific Fleet,
with a home port at Pearl Harbor.

The USS George Washington primary mission was deterrent patrols in the Pacific Ocean.
In 1981, she collided with the Nissho Maru, which was a 2,350 ton commercial cargo ship belonging to Japan.
It sank in only 15 minutes. Thirteen crew members of the Nissho Maru were rescued by two were lost.
Japan was not notified until 24 hours after the collision and the incident created tension between the two countries.
The primary cause for the tension was that the USS George Washington was only about 20 miles from
Japan’s territorial waters. There was reportedly no attempt at rescue by the USS George Washington.
The United States would apologize and offer compensation to the families of the lost soldiers.
While the U.S. would never reveal what it was doing so close to Japanese waters, the Navy did
accept responsibility for the accident. In 1983, the ballistic missiles from the USS George Washington
were removed in accordance with the SALT I treaty. The final numbers for the nuclear submarine
known as the “Georgefish” were 55 deterrent patrols in both the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans
over a span of 25 years.
The USS George Washington would continue in service as an attack submarine, but only for a couple more years.
It was decommissioned in 1985 and the recycling of the submarine was completed in 1998.
If you or a loved one served on the USS George Washington, you should consider ordering one of the
beautiful Navy rings as a proud reminder of this vessel. There are many symbols and insignia from
the USS George Washington that can be engraved into the sides of Navy rings.
This would make a wonderful gift for a veteran who was part of this piece of U.S. Navy history.

How to order a custom military ring

A custom military ring is one piece of jewelry that means a
great deal to the wearer.
It’s a symbol of their commitment, dedication, and sacrifice.
Many are passed on down through the generations,
along with stories of heroism, courage, and heartbreak.
Ordering a custom military ring is fairly simple,
but there are few things you’ll need to consider.
There are many different ways that you can order a custom military ring.
Some jewelry stores offer this service. If you are in a military academy,
you will receive literature on how to order your customized military graduation ring.
However, you can also order from a number of different sites online.
You do want to use a bit of caution to ensure that you’re ordering from a reputable company.
You’ll find several reviews that you can browse through to find about the quality of the rings and
the customer service.
You will want to determine which type of precious metal you want the ring made out of. Gold, silver, and
valadium are popular choices. Some are made from gold or silver plated materials, too.
Valadium is a silver toned metal that is very strong and durable. This is a good choice for those who want
to wear their ring every day. Most military members make the choice between gold and silver
based upon their dress uniform. For example, an Air Force member will usually go with silver,
while an Army member will generally go with gold.

The style of the ring is also important to a custom military ring. The signet ring style is the most common.
This is a classic, traditional style of ring that was favored by many of the great military leaders in history.
The top of the ring doesn’t feature a stone, but instead has a raised crest of the military branch the member serves in.
The sides of the ring can be left plain or have engravings of other symbols and insignia’s.
The inside of the ring – of any custom military ring – can be engraved with a short personal message, initials,
or an important date.
The symbols, insignia, and emblems on the sides of a custom military ring are really where your
creativity comes into play. There are dozens of these symbols available. Some are unit insignias.
Others pertain to a specific military campaign. There are also those that represent a specific type of
aircraft or vessel that the military member operates or supports. There are flags, dates, slogans, and
just about anything else you might imagine that can be used on the sides of the ring to make it
completely personalized for you.
Sizing is important, too, so it’s best if you can stop into a jewelry store and make sure you know
your ring size without guessing. Also, be sure to check out the warranty information.
Some companies will replace or repair a ring if it is damaged. If you have any questions when placing
your order online, make sure you give the company a call to ensure there are no mix-ups in
your custom military ring order.

civilians who want to show their support for the Armed Forces,
but not in a traditional way.
Military belly button rings can make a great gift for those who wear
such a piece of jewelry and there are many styles available today.
For those who have a loved one serving in the military, you might
look for a military belly button ring designed to show your support.
For example, there are naval rings that say, “I love my soldier.”
These are available in sterling silver or gold and are often found
in various sizes and lengths.
While a military belly button ring isn’t the perfect gift for everyone,
there are several designs for those who wear such jewelry.

Other unique gifts include toe rings, henna tattoos, and even flip-flops with a military design.
If you can think of it as a gift, it’s available somewhere in a military theme. Sometimes,
it’s the unique gift ideas that really put a smile on the military member’s face!
There are several gifts that poke fun at another branch of the military or even at civilians.
There are gifts that remember those who have fallen in combat.
You’ll also find a great number of gifts that are specifically designed for military members to give their loved ones.
You’ve probably seen many of the t-shirts and other clothing items that say,
“My daddy is a soldier” or “Proud wife of a Marine.”
The key to choosing a great unique military gift is to use your imagination.
Perhaps the perfect gift is a traditional military ring, with emblems and insignia down the sides and
a beautiful semi-precious stone on the top. Perhaps, though, a toe ring, with a matching military belly button
ring is more your style. The great part about searching for these gifts online is that the selection is so much better
than you will find in most catalogs or shops. In addition, you get to focus on those unique gifts that can be
personalized specifically for the recipient.

There are other benefits to ordering online. The process is streamlined and simple.
You can have these gifts shipped almost anywhere in the world, too. However,
there are some countries that have limitations on what you can ship in, so if your gift is really
“out there,” then you may want to check with the post office first.
It would really be disappointing to find out that your gift didn’t arrive because it was snagged by customs!
In closing, for those who are a little more unique than others are, a unique military gift
is a great choice – including military belly button rings.
Take a few minutes and see what is available before you settle on the traditional military ring,
clothing, or plaque. Your loved one will appreciate it.

U.S. military rings for specialized units

There are many specialized units in the United States military.
While most people can name a half a dozen or so even if they haven’t served
in the military, there are actually hundreds of these specialized units.
The Navy Seals, the Army’s 82nd Airborne, the Marine Snipers,
and the Air Force Paratroopers are well known specialized units.
Many of these units are so specialized that seventy to eighty percent of all
who start the training do not finish. It really takes a unique
person to be a part of such a close knit group of military members.
Recognizing this service, dedication, and sacrifice is something that isn’t taken lightly.
For those that serve in these units, U. S. military rings are the perfect way to do just that.

U.S. military rings have a long, proud history. The first rings were given to graduates of the United States
Military Academy in 1835.
Since that time virtually every military academy graduate has had a ring symbolizing their
hard work and dedication. Most of the rings are ordered during the second or third year and the class spends
a great deal of time working on the perfect design. However, military rings are not just for graduations or
even graduations from specialized training.
Many military members order their military ring to recognize other important achievements in their careers.
This might include a promotion, retirement, or a deployment on a military campaign.
Specialized units are often the first ones into a conflict and they deserve recognition for
these dangerous missions.
One of the most important aspects to U.S. military rings are the emblems and insignia that decorate
the sides of the ring or underneath the stone on top. Many will design their ring with the branch emblem
on the top and the unit insignia on one side.
The other side is often used to recognize a specific type of aircraft, ship, or submarine on the other.
It might also have the insignia of a military campaign, such as Operation Iraqi Freedom or Enduring Freedom.
Some of the units in the military are so highly specialized that they are considered ‘top secret.’
Many of these units have a specific way that their presence in this unit is identified,
but the unit member will know what is and isn’t allowed on a ring. If you are ordering the ring as a gift,
you might want to speak with your loved one about what they want on the ring.
It might ruin the surprise, but you want to make sure it’s a design that they will love.
In closing, there are many styles and designs of U.S. military rings. From active duty to veterans to retirees,
there is no better gift to recognize one’s service in this very honorable profession.
Ordering the ring is easy online and you can have it shipped almost anywhere in the world.
U.S. military rings are part of the history of the Armed Forces.
What a terrific way to add your own piece of military history to your family’s own past, present, and future.

it was considered a great honor to be awarded this piece of jewelry.
What has changed over time is the design and materials used to
create such a ring. Today, you’ll find gold, silver, and
valadium rings that are strikingly beautiful.
Semi-precious stones can be inset on top of the rings and
engravings down the sides ensure that personalization is the primary goal.

Others are used to commemorate a specific deployment or operation.
You will also find many military members who wear a ring designed to simply showcase their military careers.
Ordering military rings is very simply and can be done online in just a few minutes.

The top of the ring usually has a branch crest of unit insignia and it may be engraved or raised.
In some cases, this area of the ring is also colored, which makes it even more beautiful.
The sides of the ring are bare, adding to the simplicity. However, the third style of ring features
a the same top, but also has engravings on the sides.
One of the features of military rings that is much appreciated is the engraving on the inside the band.
This area can contain a short message, the owner’s initials, or a special date.

Air force gifts – aim high!

The Air Force is one of the smaller branches of the Armed Forces,
but that doesn’t make it any less important.
These men and women provide safety in the skies above our country,
protection for our forces deployed overseas, and strategic bombing when needed.
The support and maintenance units help ensure
that the aircraft are ready for action at a moment’s notice.
If you want to give Air Force gifts to your friends or family members who serve this country,
then you’re in luck! There are many great gift ideas that will delight the Air Force member in your life.
Some are very elegant. Others are useful. Still more are great for gag gifts!

These are beautiful tokens of a military member’s service and most can be personalized with
a short message or important date. These gifts will really resonate with your airman or officer,
as everyone loves to receive a gift that is specifically made for them.
Other formal Air Force gifts include shadowboxes and display cases.
You can fill a display case with the airman’s medals, photos, and patches.
This is a great idea for someone who is retiring or just received a promotion.
Other Air Force gifts might include a personalized desk set, a plaque honoring the recipient’s service,
or even set of engraved glasses.

For those that love military clothing, there are so many Air Force gifts that run down this line.
Jackets and hats are two of the most popular, but t-shirts and sweats are right behind.
Many of the t-shirts poke fun at another branch of the military, as the competition between the branches is high.
In addition, you can find some great Air Force scarves, boxers, and even socks that most people
will really enjoy receiving as a gift.
Most members of the Air Force have spent time deployed in support of military operations around the world.
These deployments are quite difficult on their friends and family, as well as on themselves.
However, there is a great deal of pride in serving their country across the globe.
Consider giving Air Force gifts that recognize these military operations,
such as Operations Desert Storm, Desert Shield, and Iraqi Freedom.
Your friend or family member will appreciate the recognition for such service.
You may also want to consider honoring an Air Force Veteran who served in such conflicts
as Vietnam or Korea.
In closing, when consider which of the many Air Force gifts will be best received,
think about what type of job the airman has and where he or she has been stationed.
This will help you choose the best gift possible, but remember that it’s the show of appreciation
for their service, sacrifice, and dedication that really matters to your military friend or family member.

Some are for graduations from a military academy, such as the U.S. Naval Academy,
West Point, or the Air Force Academy.
These military class rings are a symbol of discipline, honor, and achievement.
These are four year colleges that are much more than just a classroom
learning experience.

However, for those that do, military class rings are a great way to show how proud you are

For example, the Naval Academy official class rings are the result of a yearlong design process.
No one can wear these particular rings except for those privileged to be part of that year’s class.

The history of Military Signet Rings

The history of military signet rings dates back at least to the Augustan period in Rome.
The Romans probably got it from the Spartan warriors.
Most of the Roman signet rings reflect Egyptian, Etruscan, Greek, and Oriental influences.
A sign of honor, signet rings were often massive,
making it difficult to wear them. Rings denoted one’s social standing.
It was considered a privilege to wear a signet ring,
but it was often reserved for those who served with distinction in the military.
Eventually, this type of ring would be bestowed more freely,
but still was a mark of dignity and often used as an important seal.
Roman custom was to remove a ring from the finger of those who had died,
but there was also a bit of superstition surrounding signet rings, too.
For example, if the ring was removed, then there was a chance of bad luck and tidings.
The custom was to only wear one ring, but as the popularity of signet rings grew,
so did the number of rings that were worn.
Crass-us, a powerful Roman politician wore two rings. Horace, a Roman satirist and poet, wore three rings.
This provoked much debated at first, as altering custom was usually not taken very well in the Roman society.

The shape and size of signet rings could vary. The top of the ring could be raised, cusped, or ridged.
More elaborate versions, with filigree and fretwork would become popular.
Circular and octagonal rings were done in solid metal. Sometimes,
the shank of the ring would have precious or semi-precious stones.
Romans used mostly emeralds, sapphires, or garnets, but diamonds and
amethysts were reserved for the most noble and prominent of men.
Signet rings were used to validate serious legal documents in Roman times.
Cicero and Pliny both state that signet rings were eventually worn on the little finger.
It served as a man’s signature. Julius Caesar wore one with Venus on it.
Augustus has several signet rings featuring a sphinx, the image of Alexander the Great, and
finally one with his own image.
Through the following centuries, the signet ring would once again become a sign of military strength,
finding its way throughout the rest of Europe, to Asia, and eventually to the United States.
Military signet rings in the United States would feature the seal of the branch of military
that the person served in.
It would be handmade, with a raised seal and quite exceptional.
Today, the military signet ring still stands for honor, duty, and pride. The styles of signet rings vary,
as do the precious metals used to create them. The sides of the signet ring are often engraved
with military images or emblems.
The inside of the band can be engraved with a short message,
initials, or an important date. These military signet rings can
be ordered online and shipped just about anywhere in the world.
Each ring is custom made by some of the finest craftsmen in the world.

The hurricane hunters of the air force reserve

The 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron is one of a king. It is the only DOD
organization that still flies into hurricanes and tropical storms and it’s been
doing so since 1944. What actually started on a dare has grown into a full
fledged squadron responsible for tracking, measuring, and reporting on
tropical storms and hurricanes.
Equipped with ten WC-130J aircraft, this squadron is stationed in Biloxi,
Mississippi at Kessler Air Force Base. The aircraft and crew are part of the 403rd Wing.
With a history over fifty years, traced back to the 3rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron.
However, during this time, the B-17 was the aircraft of choice for weather reconnaissance during
World War 11. In September 1945, the 53rd became the first to fly into a hurricane intentionally.
It became their primary mission, however, and the name “Hurricane Hunters” seemed very fitting.
For the next several decades, the squadron was deployed around the world. Because there wasn’t satellite
communications, the 53rd would become responsible for collecting and transmitted data to weather
stations all over the planet. These weather stations would prepare forecasts for the U.S. Weather Bureau and
the United States Air Force. Another type of aircraft that was often used was the WB-25 Mitchell.
This was a medium sized bomber that ended up with a variety of missions.

It wasn’t until 1947 that the United States Weather Bureau would begin their hurricane warning service.
In 1953, all hurricanes would be given the names of women. It was a way for the public to easily
track the hurricanes. Several experiments were conducted by the 53rd with the help of the Weather Bureau.
One experiment tried to diminish the intensity of a hurricane by spraying the clouds with dry ice particles.
Unfortunately, this was not effective.
Once WWII had ended, the 53rd inherited several WB-29 Superfortress aircraft.
This was the first aircraft that was designed for the weather service with the letter “W.”
This was also the first aircraft that flew above a hurricane at an altitude of 22,000 feet.
A special assignment, though, was still to come.
In 1953, the squadron was flying daily into the far north and the children of the crew and other personnel
wanted their letters delivered to Santa. The word quickly spread and suddenly there were letters to
Santa pouring in from all over the world. The 53rd would be responsible for those letters for years to come.
There were other aircraft that were used by the 53rd over the years. The WB-47 Stratojet
would eventually be replaced by the WC-130 Hercules in 1963. After Hurricane Camille hit
the Gulf Coast in 1969, Congress wanted the Hurricane Hunters to be closer to the Coast.
By 1973, they got their request and the 53rd moved to Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi.
In 1975, the Air Force Reserve would activate the 815th Weather Reconnaisance Squadron.
Nicknamed the “Storm Trackers,” many combined missions with the 53rd would earn respect
throughout the Armed Forces. In 1991, the 53rd would be deactivated due to budget cuts and
the entire mission of hurricane hunting would go to the 815th.
The combination of tactical airlift missions and storm hunting would prove too much for
one squadron, however. The weather squadron brought back the “Hurricane Hunters” and
the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron carries on the tradition today.
If you or a loved one have served with the 53rd or the 815th, then you should celebrate that
services with one of the many styles of Air Force rings. You can easily customize
an Air Force ring with one of the hundreds of different insignia, symbols, and
emblems that are available.
In addition, you can have the inside of the band engraved with a personal message.

The 8th marine regiment: ground pounding infantry

Based out of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, the 8th Marine Regiment is under
the command of the 2nd Marine Division.
This infantry regiment was formed in 1917 in Quantico, Virginia during World War I.
While in training for this war, the command was actually transferred to Fort Crockett,
Texas. Its duties included guarding the Mexican Oil Fields.
The 9th Marines joined the men of the 8th Marines and formed the 3rd Marine Brigade.
It was the first Advance Base Force of World War I. Because of this designation,
these Marines did not see action during World War I, but were tasked with defending naval bases
in the West Indies should this action be need. In 1919, the 8th Marines were deactivated.
A year later, the 8th Marines were reactivated and deployed to Haiti to fight the Cacos bandits.
Through patrols and some intermittent clashes, the 8th was able to eliminate these bandits that had been
in place for over a hundred years. Once this mission was finished, the 8th Marines were deactivated
yet again in 1925. This time it would be fifteen years before they would be reactivated again.
In 1940, the 8th Marines were deployed Samoa for jungle training. These brave men would travel
to Guadalcanal to assist the 1st Marine Division and earn their first Presidential Unit Citation.
The second citation would come after the 8th Marines seized New Zealand after 76 hours
of some of the bloodiest and deadliest fighting in American history.
This battle effectively opened the door to Japan. After this deployment, the 8th Marines would travel
to Saipan and Tinian, which resulted in the capturing of these key bases.
This lead to an effective air war against Japan.

During the 1980s, the 8th Marines would participate in Operation Urgent Fury,
which resulted in the rescue of American students in Grenada. From 1990 to the present,
the 8th Marines have participated in every operation in the Persian Gulf, including Desert Storm,
Iraq Freedom, and Enduring Freedom.
The 8th Marines would be responsible for securing many of the cities in Iraq and Afghanistan.
This led to the elections in Iraq, a great turning point for the Iraqi people. Currently,
the 8th Marines are deployed to Afghanistan and that current deployment is expected to last until 2012.
If you have a loved one serving in the 8th Marines, what better way to show your support than
with one of the many styles of Army rings? A fantastic visual reminder of your loved one’s service and
dedication, the insignia of the 8th Marines can be highlighted on the either side of the ring.
You can also have the insignia placed under the semi-precious stone. These Army rings are certain to

31st marine expeditionary unit: air, ground, and support assets
In nearly every military and humanitarian crisis that the United States has been
involved in since World War II, projection forces have been deployed.
These are the first units that are able to move into position with sufficient
means to sustain prolonged military operations. The Fleet Marine Forces are
these specialized units. A combination of air, ground, and support assets,
the Marine Air Ground Task Forces maximize the combat power of
each of these fighting elements.
The marine Expeditionary Unit or MEU is the smallest unit of the Marine Air Ground Task Forces.
In collaboration with the Navy, these MEUs are the nation’s quick response team and
are deployed in numerous locations around the world on very short notice.
The MEU is led by a Marine Colonel. Approximately 2,200 Sailors and Marines will board
three to four amphibious ships. These ships are designated as an Amphibious Squadron and
have another 2,100 to 2,300 Sailors and Marines. The ships and men are known as
an Amphibious Squadron led by a senior Navy Captain called Commodore.
When joined together, the MEU and the Amphibious Squadron are known as an Amphibious Ready Group.
The 31st MEU is the only Forward Deployed Naval Force located in the Pacific-Asia region.
There are four major elements to the MEU. The first is known as the CE or Command Element.
This is the commanding officers and support staff. The main mission of the CE is to provide
the command and coordination necessary for effective planning of operations. Reconnaissance,
electronic warfare, and intelligence are also in the CE. All assets relating to reconnaissance,
surveillance, and electronic countermeasure teams are also part of the CE.

The GCE or Ground Combat Element for the MEU is the BLT. This is a type of infantry battalion,
but it’s also includes combat engineers, assault amphibian vehicles, artillery, and light armored vehicles.
Each mission will require the tailoring of these pieces to meet expected needs.
The ACE or Aviation Combat Element provides both fixed wing and rotary air support.
Depending upon the different missions and the space limitations, there may be only one squadron or
a full Marine Aircraft wing. For the 31st MEU, it remains a reinforced squadron. Helicopters such as
the CH-46, the CH-53E, and the UH-1N (known as the Huey) , as well as the AV08B Harrier and
two C-130s remain on standby in Okinawa, Japan to be utilized as needed. Air traffic control and
aircraft maintenance are also included with the ACE.
The last element is the LCE or the Logistics Combat Element. The Combat Logistics Battalion is
the LCE that is partof the MEU. It provides combat support, supply, EOD, military police, pay serves,
medical and dental services, and pay services. Fairly small in numbers, these 300 Marines and
Sailors are responsible for wide range of capabilities and services.
The MEU is well suited for security operations, amphibious operations, and is an expeditionary force.
It can operate in foreign lands without a base or facilities. Thoroughly trained in what is commonly
called “METS,” the MEU can provide amphibious raids to humanitarian assistance.
If you or a loved one served in the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, then you should show your pride
with one of the many styles of Marine rings. Beautifully designed, you can order these Marine rings with
the 31st MEU emblem on the side or under the semi-precious stone on top. For those that want to show
off their pride in the 31st MEU, these Marine rings are a great choice.

The 100th air refueling wing – A critical air refueling bridge

The 100th Air Refueling Wing is part of the United States Air Force and
stationed at RAF Millennial, England.
It is the only U.S. air refueling wing that is permanent in Europe.
It provides the critical air refueling “bridge” that allows the US Air Force
to Deploy anywhere in the world on a moment’s notice.
The 100th ARW was originally called the 100th Bombardment Group.
It originally was a B-17 Flying Fortress unit that was stationed at RAF Thorpe
Abbotts in England. There were two Disguised Unit Citations given to this unit during and
after World War II. This unit flew over 300 missions and suffered great losses during combat.
Over 170 aircraft would be missing in action.
On April 20, 1945, the unit flew its last mission.
The 100th ARW is comprised of 15 KC-135 aircraft. The unit has over 16,000 personnel,
which are assigned to four bases. The 100th ARW was first stationed at Beale, AFB, California.
There were no personnel or equipment when this unit first started. Eventually, the 17th Bombardment
Wing’s KC-135 Stratotankers were absorbed by the 100th ARW.
It assumed the responsibility for worldwide air refueling support from September 1976 until March 1983.
It was then taken over by the 9th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing.

For the next seven years, the unit would remain inactive. In July 1990, the 100th ARW was reactivated,
but with a new name – the 100th Air Division. Its new home would be Whiteman AFB, Missouri.
It would only be a year, however, before the unit would be deactivated again.
Finally, in 1992, the 100th ARW was reactivated in RAF Mildenhall.
This is the long refueling wing for the Air Force in Europe.
The premier aircraft, the KC-135 Stratotanker is quite a unique aircraft. It was the Air Force’s
first jet powered refueling tanker. It has been used extensively since the Vietnam War and
it tremendously extends the range and endurance of almost all of the U.S. Military’s bombers and
tactical fighters. It has been in service with the Air Force for over fifty years,
making it only one of six aircraft to carry that distinction. Despite the increasing costs associated
with maintenance, studies have shown that many of these aircraft can be safely flown until 2040.
The KC-46 is the expected replacement.
The KC-135 has a multi-point refueling system, allowing it to refuel many different kinds of US aircraft,
but also most of the NATO tactical jet aircraft, as well. It can also refuel two aircraft at the same time.
It can hold up to 31,275 gallons of fuel and requires a crew of three.
However, there is also room for up to 37 passengers.
If you or a loved one is part of the 100th ARW, then you might consider an Air Force ring.
There are beautiful insignias and emblems for the 100th ARW available that you can have engraved
on the sides. The inside of the band can also be personalized with an engraving.
These Air Force rings are a terrific way to show your support for these men and women
of the 100 AWR and they make a fantastic gift idea.

U.S. Navy SEALs – AnElite Maritime Force

The Navy SEALs were established in 1962 by President Kennedy.
This elite, small maritime force was created for unconventional warfare.
The members of the SEALs team are trained to operate in all environments,
which is where the name of the unit comes from – Sea, Air, and Land.
From the humid jungles to scorching deserts, SEALs take advantage of the
fact that the over half of the world’s population is within a mile of a river or ocean.
SEALs can infiltrate heavy defended areas when necessary to accomplish their mission,
such as the shallow water of the Persian Gulf Coastline.
Part of the history of the U.S. Navy SEALs can be linked to the very first group of Naval
Constructions Battalions in 1943.
Their missions were to clean the beaches of obstacles so that amphibious landings could occur with less problems.

The Naval Combat Demolition Units, also known as NCDUs came next and they distinguished themselves
in Normandy with their Underwater Demolition Teams or UDTs.
These new units had action in just about every corner of the Pacific during the Second World War When
the SEALs were created, it was for counter-guerilla warfare and other clandestine operations.
The emphasis was put on maritime operations. There were two teams initially, one on the West Coast and
one on the East Coast. During the Vietnam War, these impressive units complied
an unmatched record of success.
Since Vietnam ended, the SEALs have had to adapt to an every-changing world.
Increased operation tasking has led to an increase in the number of SEAL units and their capabilities.
SEAL Deliver Vehicle Teams have been created, which has allowed this important Naval unit
with additional amphibious support.Seal Delivery Teams (SDV) are considered part of
the elite combat unit of Naval Special Warfare.
These teams are highly trained and organized. They are equipped for unconventional warfare,
special operations, and foreign internal defense. Because of the need for increased special
operations throughout the world, Navy SEALS must continuously train for all types of combat situations.
SEAL training is mentally and physically exhausting. Basic Underwater Demotion /SEAL or BUD/S training
is held in Coronado, CA. It’s a six month course that focuses on physical conditioning, diving physics,
small boat handling, basic diving techniques, land warfare, weapons, communications, demolitions, and
reconnaissance.
The course is broken up into six distinct phases: Indoctrination, Basic Conditioning, Diving, Land Warfare,
Basic Parachute Training. At the end, the graduates will receive their Naval Special Warfare Classification.
SEALs have a long proud tradition and a great deal of respect in the Armed Forces.
They fulfill a very special role in today’s military operations.
However, the training and selection process is very difficult. The dropout rate for the training is very high and
there have actually been some classes that no recruit completed.
It’s not just the physical requirements of the course, either.
The sheer mental strength of these “warriors” is unmatched. Those who make it through
and proudly wear the title of a Navy SEAL often order a Navy SEAL ring to show their pride.
You can find these Navy SEAL rings online and create a stunning reminder of their sacrifice and service.

Air Force Pararescue – “That Others May Live”

There is more to the Air Force Para-rescue team than just providing emergency
medical treatment.
These highly trained members of the Air Force evacuate the injured,
act as aircrew gunners, provide various flight duties, and provide landing
sites for NASA missions.
The history of this Special Forces unit is quite a story and it sheds some light on why
it is considered one of the most unique units in the military today.
In 1943, 21 people jumped out of a C-46 that was in trouble over a jungle near the Burma/China Border.
The crash site was in a such a remote area that the only way to get help to those who survived
was by parachuting into the area.
Two medical corpsmen and Lt. Colonel Fleckinger volunteered to parachute in.
This was the beginnings of the idea for a Pararescue unit. For over a month, these three men,
with the help of natives, took care of the injured until they could be taken out of the jungle.
One of those rescued individuals, Eric Severeid, a news commentator, described the men as “gallant.”

The Pararescue unit of the Air Force was founded. Since that time, rescues have occurred almost
everywhere in the world.
In South East Asia, during Vietnam, Pararescuemen risked their lives on multiple occasions to
get aid to and evacuate friendly forces that needed immediate help. There were 19 Air Force Crosses
awarded to enlisted airmen during Vietnam and ten of those medals were awarded to Pararescuemen.
Even in times of peace, the functions of this unit are done every day. They provide medical treatment
for injured men and women. The maroon beret, a symbol of those who serve in this elite unit, represents
the blood sacrificed and the duty to aid others. “That Others May Live” is a fitting motto
for this organization.
A Pararescue SCUBA team was credited for saving the astronauts of Gemini 8. The team deployed
from Naha Air Base in Okinawa, Japan. They arrived just in time to watch as Gemini 8 hit the water.
They parachuted into the ocean and attached flotation equipment within just twenty minutes.
They remained with the astronauts until a Navy destroyer was able to pick them all up.
The training is extensive, to say the least. This unit is constantly striving for new ways to provide
recovery and medical aid to those who need it. One of the major developments for the unit came
when they incorporated scuba techniques with that of parachuting. A Pararescueman can jump
with up to 170 lbs. of equipment on his back.
Pararescuemen are not just utilized to save American lives. For example, on two different occasions,
this unit was called to provide aid to two Russian seamen. One was badly burned aboard a Russian ship
that was 700 miles away from land. Two Pararescuemen in the Azores parachuted into the ocean near
the ship and stayed aboard the ship to provide treatment until the ship could reach port.
Just two weeks later, a Russian sailor was severely injured in a fall aboard a Russian fishing boat.
Three Pararescuemen provided aid until the ship was close enough to shore that a Coast Guard cutter
could pick up the injured man and get him to shore.
The list of those who have been helped by the Air Force Pararescuemen goes on and on.
This is a very specialized unit and only a few will pass the rigorous training program.
Those who do often wear Air Force Pararescue rings. These rings are a fantastic reminder of their sacrifice and
service to those in need.
