Life can be very lonely for the troops deployed in Iraq,
Afghanistan and other hot spots around the globe.
Lonely, difficult and dangerous.
And life for the loved ones they’ve left behind can be lonely
and difficult, too.
Wives, husbands, children, parents, brothers and sisters around the country wait,
sometimes patiently and sometimes not, for their gallant heroes to return.
The courageous men and women of our military risk their lives for us every day,
and every day their family members wonder when they’ll finally be coming home.
Military support is crucial
Military support is imperative for the success of the missions our troops undertake.
Without military support our troops’ morale and resolve might quickly
crumble, potentially causing problems when they encounter difficult conditions.
The members of our military need to know they have not been forgotten while
they’re “over there,” and military support is one of the best ways to let them know.
Military support improves the welfare and morale of deployed members of the armed
forces wherever they are, letting them focus much better on the mission at hand so
they can return safely to their loved ones when the job is done.
There are many ways to show that you support our troops and their families.
Join military support groups
Military support groups have sprung up throughout the country, and they provide much-needed and much-welcomed services and goods to our troops and their families.
You can join one of those military support groups and give them your time,
or you could donate money or supplies to their cause:
any military support group would be happy to receive your help.
But there’s an even better way that you can show your military support, a way
that lets you directly touch the lives of the individual soldiers, sailors and airmen you know and care for.
Send a military gift
You can give them military gifts.
Every deployed member of the military loves to hear his or her name shouted
out at Mail Call, and nothing gives our troops a bigger boost.
Military gifts are a tangible symbol of military support, directly connecting
our deployed military with the people at home who send them.
We take certain things for granted, but deployed troops appreciate receiving
those things because they’re just not available in a combat zone.
Things like:
- magazine subscriptions
- Extra socks
- T-shirts
- Sweatshirts and shorts
- Pre-paid international telephone calling cards so they can make calls home
- Military rings so they can show their pride.
- Surprise military care packages that include candies, snacks, toiletries and
toys and games are always a big hit with deployed troops and possibly
give the biggest boost of all.
It’s time to give back to those who give their all.
They’ve made life-changing sacrifices and endure hardship and danger every day.
They risk their lives to keep us safe and free. If you’re looking for a way to support and honor our troops, look no further.
