Military Gifts – Military Rings – Military Gift Ideas

Military retirement gifts that are sure to please!

Do you know someone who is getting ready to retire from the military?

While most people automatically assume that some retires from the military
when they have served 20 years.

Today, more and more military members are serving 25 or even 30 years,
depending on their rank and the branch of service they are in.

Retiring from the military can mean a lot of different emotions.
Some are more than ready to take their leave, while others would
continue to serve if they were allowed to.

Keep that in mind as you pick out military retirement gifts.
Two of the most common gifts for military retirees are plaques and clocks.
Plaques are great gifts from a group. You can include a picture of the retiree or the insignia for the unit they served in.

The retiree’s name and dates of service should be included.
Some plaques also include a saying or slogan that is familiar to the unit.

These plaques will undoubtedly have a place of honor in the retiree’s home or office,
as well as in his or her family’s heirlooms.

There are many styles of clocks available today that make great military retirement gifts.
From a traditional wall clock with the branch emblem on the face to a mantle clock that is
quite elegant and formal, you’ll find a wide selection available.

Some feature an engraving plate on the front that can feature the retiree’s name,
rank , and dates of services. In addition, pocket watches are also quite popular.

The front of the pocket watch can have a beautifully raised adornment of the branch crest,
unit insignia, or even an aircraft, helicopter, or ship that the military member operated or supported.
These watches are available in silver or gold plated materials.

The face of the watch can be also have some sort of decoration or symbol.
The back of the watch is often engraved with a special message to the retiree,
such as “Thank you for your service” and the service dates.

Other popular military retirement gifts are less formal. For example, there are some great “gag” gifts,
such as t-shirts that say something like “I don’t want to…I don’t have to…I’m retired!”
These gifts are great for lightening up the mood at a retirement where someone is less than
enthused about leaving the military. In addition, you might want to mix up these types of
gifts up with those of a more serious nature.

In closing, military retirement gifts will normally require a bit of thought to make sure the gift fits the retiree.
Personalizing these gifts will ensure that the memories of their career are never forgotten.
The key to a great retirement gift is that it truly showcases the service of the retiree.
Whether they have 20, 25, or 30 years under their belt, they will surely be missed.
Show these veterans how much you appreciate their service, sacrifice, and
dedication with the perfect selection of military retirement gifts.

The army reserves – a proud long tradition

The Army Reserves can trace its beginning back to 1908 when the Army was
authorized by Congress to establish a reserve corps of medical officers.

This was that nation’s first federal reserve and within four years, a regular
Army Reserve would be authorized, as well.

The first time that the Army Reserve would be called to service was during
the 1916 tensions between Mexico and the United States.
The purpose of the call up was to provide additional strength in numbers.
This first mobilization was a very important development and showed
the potential for the Army Reserve.

The National Defense Act of 1916 would establish the Officers and Enlisted Reserve Corps,
as well as the Reserve Officers Training Corps. When America entered World War I,
there are over 50,000 reservists. Just one decade earlier, there had been none.
By the end of the war, the reservists who served would number over 170,000.
Since that time, Army Reservists have participated in every major conflict involving the United States.
Only about 11,000 couldn’t serve, with some being too old or serving as Congressmen and judges.

There were many Army Reservists who would become well known for their military services.
Theodore Roosevelt was the first general to land on D-Day. Ronald Regan would serve during World War II,
but his fame would come later in life. By the end of the war, over half of the soldiers fighting
would be from the Army Reserve.

During the Korean War, almost a quarter of a million Reservists would be called to duty.
While this war was still ongoing, Congress started changing the structure of the Army Reserve.
There would now be three types of Reservists – the Ready Reserve, the Standby Reserve, and
the Retired Reserve. The President would have the authority to call up
one million Reservists – from all branches of the Armed Forces – to active duty when necessary.

Vietnam would see the smallest numbers of Reservists called up, but there were still 33 Reserve units
deployed to this conflict. The next major call up would be in 1990, with the invasion of Kuwait.
Over 84,000 Army Reservists were called up and supported all branches of the Armed Forces
in locations around the world.

Since that time, the Army Reserve has almost always been engaged somewhere around the world.
Deployments have included Iraq, Somalia, Haiti, Bosnia, and Yugoslavia. Currently,
there are thousands of Army Reservists serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

If you or a loved one has served in the Army Reserve, then you should consider honoring that service
with an Army ring. One of the best things about these rings is that they can be customized for each
individual soldier. You can choose between several precious metals, semi-precious stones, insignia and
emblems, and even engraving on the inside of band.

It’s easy to order an Army ring online and you can have it shipped almost anywhere in the world.
There is no better gift for a loved one whose service, dedication, and sacrifice have
helped keep this country safe.

The United States Coast Guard Pacific Area Unit – Keeping the pacific safe

When the California Gold Rush brought an immense influx of
people from the east, it also came with general
lawlessness to the seaside villages. Abandoned ships
and smugglers were common along the west coast of the
United States and this coastline was
not safe for any seaward travelers.

In 1848, the Revenue Cutter Lawrence arrived in its new homeport,
San Francisco, as a representative of the federal government.

This would be the first presence of the United States Coast
Guard in the Pacific. The list of assignments was long – including
those of judge and customs agents. The crew of the Revenue Cutter
Lawrence would do whatever it took to maintain some sense
of order during this very chaotic period on the West Coast.

Today, the Coast Guard’s Pacific Area Headquarters do not operate from a
cutter, but instead from Alameda, California on Coast Guard Island.
This is located just across the bay from San Francisco. In spite of
what many people may think, the operations of the Coast Guard are
not limited to the southern part of the East Coast of the United States.

The Coast Guard is responsible for 74 million square miles of PACAREA.
This area runs from the Arctic Circle to South American and west to
the Far East. Because of streamlining measures, the units and staff of
the 11th District are now part of the Pacific Area staff.
This includes Coast Guard units in California, Utah, Arizona, and Nevada.

Coast Guard Island isn’t just home to the Pacific Area Headquarters, though. You’ll also find the Joint Interagency Task Force West, the Maritime Defense Zone Pacific, MSO San Francisco Bay, Maintenance and Logistics Command Pacific, and four High Endurance Cutters. Over 27,000 personnel of various active duty, reserve, and civilian distinctions are here. There are a total of ten High Endurance Cutters, six Medium Endurance Cutters, 14 HH-60 Jayhawks, 27 HH-65A Dolphins, 2 Polar Icebreakers, 29 WPB’s, and 12 Buoy tenders.

The inherent, diverse missions which the Coast Guard undertakes require the highest level of commitment and service. For active duty Coast Guard members assigned here, they can be on patrol in the Persian Gulf or breaking through the ice in the Arctic Ocean. They escort supply vessels to research bases, provide training for other maritime nations, and a variety of other tasks.

Because the Pacific Ocean is so large (it covers over 35% of the surface of the Earth), the challenges that face the men and women of the Coast Guard are very diverse. Law enforcement will always have a significant role for Coast Guard members, as will environmental and humanitarian needs.

If you or a loved on serves with the Coast Guard Pacific Area, then consider ordering one of the many styles of Coast Guard Rings. The Pacific Area emblem can be engraved right on the side or even under the stone on the top. You can add a special message inside the band and you’ll love how easy it is to place your order for Coast Guard rings. Show a family member or friend how much you appreciate what they do every day.

The United States Air Force Honor Guard History

The military stands on ceremony and that is never more evident than
when an Honor Guard is present.

The United States Air Force Honor Guard was activated in September of 1948
under the command of two officers with 98 enlisted men under them.
It was assigned to the Air Police Squadron until 1972, when it became its own separate unit.

Each Air Force Base has its own Base Honor Guard, with members selected from
different units stationed on the base. The Air Force also has an Honor Guard unit
that is permanently assigned to Bolling AFB in Washington, D.C. This is a three year
long assignment and Air Force members stationed around the world apply to be part of this elite unit.
Members of this unit are often referred to as Ceremonial Guardsman.

The Air Force has used the Base Honor Guard for honors at military funerals since 1972; however,
it wasn’t until 1995 that Air Force establish the Protocol, Honors, and Ceremonies course to ensure
that all he funeral honors ceremony are performed the same each time.

This course provided much needed guidance on everything the Honor Guard is tasked to do,
including military funeral procedures and the uniform required. It is still used today and many times,
the Honor Guard may go to Washington, D.C. for formal training at Bolling AFB. In some cases,
a trainer from Bolling may be sent to provide the training.

In 2000, the Natural Defense Authorization Act was implemented, which provides for all veterans to
receive military funeral honors. These honors include the folding of the United States flag and the
presentation of this flag to the veteran’s next living relative. “Taps” is also performed by a member
of the Base Honor Guard. Any service member who was honorably and had at least six months serviced
time is considered an eligible veteran. Veterans’ funeral honors are performed by two or
three members of the Base Honor Guard.

Retired members of the Air Force who completed 20 years or more are entitled to the “Standard Honors”
for a military funeral. This ceremony involves six pallbearers, a six man flag fold, the playing of ‘Taps,”
and the “21 gun salute.” The flag is presented to the next-of-kin and three of the shell cases from
the rifle salute may also be presented.

Active-duty members receive a Full Honors Ceremony. This ceremony is performed by twenty
Honor Guard members. There are six pallbearers, four color guard members, one bugler, seven members
of the firing party, one NCO in charge of firing party, and one officer in charge of the entire detail.
A flyover may be authorized if the fallen service member was on flying status.
This formation is often called the “Missing Man” formation.

The Air Force Honor Guard recognizes the service and sacrifice of fallen Air Force members and
veterans in a very solemn and dignified manner. It’s a last tribute and it means a great
deal to family and friends.

For those that are tasked with this honorable detail, an Air Force Honor Guard ring is a great way
to say thank you for their volunteer service.

United States Navy Football – A Very Proud Tradition

The first Navy football game took place in 1879. Since that time,  the familiar blue andNavy-Football
gold football uniforms have helped created one of the most familiar traditions
in the history of college athletics. However, these Navy football players aren’t just
scoring on the gridiron, they are also some of the finest acadamians in the country, too.
This unique combination of athletics and academics ensures that only the
best of the best will graduate from the United States Naval Academy and
become the Navy’s finest.

All of the students at the Naval Academy will choose one of 43 different majors that
focus on 19 fields of study. In order to compete in one of the many athletic programs,
midshipmen must meet the stringent NCAA eligibility requirements, including those requirements
that deal with academic progress. If the eligibility requirements are not met,
there could be sanctions against the entire team, including fines and penalties.

The familiar blue and gold colors of Navy athletics were adopted back in 1892.
The Naval Academy Class of 1890 first used these colors and within two years, the Athletic Association
conferred with the Cadets to adopt these colors as the now familiar Academy colors.
The mascot has a different history. In 1893, a goat known as “El Cid” (The Chief) was
used as the Navy athletic teams’ mascot.

This goat is credited with helping the Navy football team beat their long time rival, the Army, that year.
However, there are other animals that have served as the team mascots.
These include a dog, a carrier pigeon, and two cats. In 1904, goats became the permanent mascot for
all of the Navy athletic teams. There are three goats that currently serve as mascots: Bill XXXII, XXXIII, and
XXXIV. Fifteen goathandlers take care of these mascots. Those goathandlers are five midshipmen
that are chosen from each class of first, second, and third year students.
There’s a lot of training that goes with becoming a goathandler and a bit of respect, as well!

There are a few other traditions that always accompany the Navy Football team. For example,
the “E” Bell rings whenever Navy beats Army in any of the three seasons of sports.
This bell is from the bridge of USS Enterprise, a famed World War II aircraft carrier.
It’s been a tradition since 1950. The Gokokuji Bell is a replica of a bell that was brought to
the United States by Commodore Matthew Perry in 1854. The original bell, which was donated to
the Academy by his widow, was returned to Okinawa in 1987. This bell is also rung each time the
team scores a football victory over their Army rivals. This bell sits in front of Bancroft Hall in Annapolis.

Midshipmen, also called Mids, is what the Navy sports teams are called. The members of the
various varsity teams who earn a varsity letter also receive an “N-Star” if they are part of a team
that beats an Army team in one of the many “Star” competitions. In recent years, the Navy has
certainly been a dominate force against the Army’s West Point teams.
The Navy has won the N-Star Competition for the last twelve years.

One of the best ways to recognize a Navy football team member is with Navy football rings.
You can easily design a Navy football ring online and have it shipped directly to the cadet at Annapolis.
Imagine their surprise when their Navy football ring arrives!

Special Forces Rings honor these exceptional Members of the Military

Depending on who you talk to, there is only one
unit that qualifies as the United States Special Forces.

This would be the United States Army Green Berets.
This highly trained, specialized group of soldiers is called upon when traditional
means of military action simply won’t get the job done.

The first Green Beret designation occurred in 1953, but it wasn’t fully authorized
until President Kennedy acknowledged this “mark of distinction” in 1961.

Since then, the Green Berets have always been considered to be a very elite group of soldiers.
They are considered a “cut above” the traditional solder, enduring conditions and
scenarios that many others cannot. These are some of the most self-reliant,
resilient soldiers that the United States military has and they are held in high regard.

Beret, then it’s time to recognize that service with a Special Forces ring. Of course, there are traditional
Army rings available, but when you serve in the Green Berets, a simply Army ring won’t suffice.
Special Forces rings are a visual representation of the endless hours of training, incredible fortitude,
unbelievable responsibility that comes with being a Green Beret. This unit requires a great deal from
their soldiers, including the highest level of integrity, skills, and sacrifice. This is why a traditional Army
ring simply is not enough.

When searching for Special Forces rings, you should take care to find a company that will help you design
a ring that truly expresses the core values of this unit. The Special Forces crest is held in very high regard and
is often chosen for the top of the ring.

This engraved crest can be done in color or simply left in the beautiful tones of the precious metal the
ring is made of. The sides of a Special Forces ring often contain a symbol or emblem of a specific military
campaign the Green Beret were part of or even an insignia that few would understand.

Special Forces rings can be engraved inside the band with a two to three word phrase, initials, or a date.
Not only does this add a personalized element to the ring, but it also makes it easier to identify should the ring
become lost or stolen. These rings are treasured and passed onto to children and grandchildren as mementos
of their relative’s honor and sacrifice.

You can order Special Forces rings and Green Beret rings online and it only takes a few minutes.
Each step of the ordering process is quite simple. Once your order is placed, it will take between two and
three weeks for you to receive your ring. You can also have the ring shipped anywhere in the world,
such as to one of the many locations where Special Forces are currently deployed.

Special Forces rings are a unique and individualized way to recognize the honor, dedication, and
sacrifice of these elite military members.

Warrant Officer

The Army Field Officer or Headquarters Clerk,
as well as the Pay Clerk, both preceded the Army
Warrant Officer.

The grade and rank of Warrant Officer was introduced to the Army in 1918. The Act that established this rank also established the Army Mine Planter Service, which was part of the Coastal Artillery Corps.

The Warrant Officers were to serve as masters, mates, and engineers on of the vessels. Initially, there were three pay
grades authorized. The Warrant Officer rank and grade was given to Field Clerks and Pay Clerks so they would be full members of the military.

In 1941, the Army decided to redefine the position of the Warrant Officer. There were two grades created, a junior grade and a Chief grade. By 1942, Warrant Officers were in forty different occupational areas. The grade of Flight Officer was created to the Army Air Force in 1942, as well.

Most of the first flight officers that graduated from the many Army Air Force flight training programs were commissioned as Second Lieutenants, but the remainder were given an appointment as a Flight Officer. Once the Warrant Officers had some flying time under their belts, many were commissioned as lieutenants.

By November of 1942, the Warrant Officer rank order was finally determined as being above an enlisted grade, but lower than all commissioned officers. In 1949, grades of W-3 and W-4 were added. The pay grade of W-5 wasn’t added until 1991.

Today, the Army Warrant Officer fills a number of different roles – a combat leader, a technical expert, an advisor, and a trainer. One of the reasons why Warrant Officers are so valuable and effective in the Army is because they can fulfill these different roles.

Over 45 occupational specialties have Warrant Officers and they serve from the section level to the upper echelons of the Army. Many command vessels and aircraft. Others are in charge of smaller units and specialized teams. In a change from traditional titles, Army Warrant Officers are addressed as Mister or the female equivalent.

There are now two basic types of Warrant Officers in the Army – aviators and technicians. In order to qualify as an applicant for technicians, the soldier must have a rank of E-5 or Sergeant. The aviators must meet high standards for aptitude and medical requirements. Unlike most of the other aviation programs in the Armed Forces, the Army Warrant Officer aviation program does not require a college degree, but it is recommended.

There are Warrant Officers in other branches of the United States Military. While this designation is not as common as it once was, there is no doubt that these military members fulfill a very specific, technical role in the Armed Forces.

For those that accept this appointment, there is a great deal of pride and honor that comes with this special rank. One of the best ways to recognize their service and dedication is with one of the many styles of Warrant Officer rings.

The unique design and beautiful craftsmanship are the perfect visual reminder of this special area of the United States Military.

Classic Military Rings – some things never go out of style

Did a family member serve in the United States military?
Perhaps you have one of their military rings as a heirloom.
Classic military rings are often considered a family treasure,
as they are part of the family’s history.

Many of today’s military members prefer the classic look for their own military rings and
it’s not as difficult as you might think to find one that is just perfect.

The first military rings date back to the early Roman and Egyptian empires.
During that time, rings were a symbol of military honor and only one was worn.
Eventually, the rings became a symbol of societal status.

By the Middle Ages, military rings were popular throughout Europe and were often used
as seals for various legal documents. In the United States, the first military rings
were given to graduates of the United States Military Academy in 1835. Since that time,
the military ring has become a tradition for all military academies,
but also for those that graduate from basic training.

In addition, military rings are often given as gifts to recognize one’s accomplishments within the military,
such as participation in a specialize unit or in a particular military campaign.

Military Rings

Classic military rings are generally considered signet rings .This style is very elegant and formal.

The top of the ring usually has the seal for the branch of the military that the member serves in.
The seal may be engraved or raised, although the raised seals are a bit easier to keep clean.
The sides of the ring may have nothing or there may be insignia s or emblems engraved.
The classic military rings generally have nothing on the sides. These rings are made from gold, silver, or valadium.

Usually, each branch has a specific color of precious metal that is preferred,
such as silver for the United States Air Force. However, it just depends on the recipient’s preferences.

Ordering classicmilitary rings is very simple, as you can place an order online. You will also have the option
of personalizing the inside of the band with a short message or the recipient’s initials.

You can have the ring shipped almost anywhere in the world, which is a great option if your loved one
is serving overseas on one of today’s many deployments. It usually takes  two or three weeks for the ring to ship,
so keep that in mind when you place your order.

Another thing to consider is using an antique class ring for part of the new ring.
Many ring designers can melt down an older ring and make the new ring out of it.
This is a great tribute to a family member and will ensure that the two rings are together to carry on the tradition.

Some veterans donate their rings to the military academy they attended to be melted down and
used for a new set of class rings. In closing, classic military rings will never go out of style.
It’s part of the military tradition. It’s a great way to show your loved one how proud you are
of their service and sacrifice.

Seeking the perfect veteran gifts can be hard

The above is especially true if you are required to buy one or two veteran gifts for a colonel, and
to make an informed decision you first need to grasp what this rank means.

First of all, being a colonel means having spent more than half your life in the military and
this makes each and every person who holds this rank especially proud of his or her
achievements in the military!

You should know that these persons put their lives on the line and were required to sacrifice
everything to defend their countries, and their service came with countless personal sacrifices,
which meant spending more time with the troops than with their families,
going on for weeks away from home, and some commanding their men into various missions.
So, you should regard them with the utmost respect.

Veteran gifts suited for a colonel
Unless you’re particularly familiar with the colonel, a bottle of wine simply won’t cut it if you want to get
some veteran gifts that will bring him or her joy. There are various veteran gifts that you can choose,
but firstly consider if the colonel just left the army or has been a veteran for some time now.

In the first case, a very considerate gift might be a customized military ring with the silver eagle
(standard colonel insignia in the US Army) engraved into the stone, the colonel’s unit insignia and
name on the side of the ring and the years of service on the other side.

Furthermore, inside the ring a customized 18 characters message can be engraved.
This is great if the military gift comes from the colonel’s insignia as it allows them to write a personalized
thank you note, as well  as if it comes for the colonel’s family or relatives.

Another very popular choice when it comes to veteran gifts for colonels are military crests,
no matter if they are veteran for some time now or only recently.

These are great because they allow to paint the military division or unit insignia on a brass plaque that’s
mounted on a mahogany display board, and are extremely popular to display
on the walls of the colonel’s office or home.

Naturally, depending on how well you know your colonel, you can go for something in the lines
of military clothing or even bumper stickers. Of course, this implies a certain degree
of familiarity with the particular colonel.

Army military intelligence: collection, analysis, processing, and dissemination of information

The USAICoE stands for the United States Army Intelligence of Excellence.
It’s the Army’s school for training their military intelligence personnel.
It has been located at Fort Huachuca, Arizona since 1993 after moving
from Fort Devens, MA. Any enlisted personnel or officers who are
in the military intelligence field attend this school, as well as many
international students in military exchange programs.

AIT students who attend school here become Human Intelligence Collectors,
Intelligence Analysts, and UAV controllers. Other personnel may be
a member of the Military Intelligence Corps. Military Intelligence utilizes
a number of different information collection and analysis mediums to commanders

The Marine Corp Band – “The President’s Own”

For over 200 years, the United States Marine Band has been part of the happenings
that have shaped the country. In 1798, Congress established the Marine Band and
it’s the oldest continuously active musical organization in the country.

Their mission is very unique – to provide music for the President of the United States.
As the Marine Band moves into its third century, the tradition of excellence continues.

Earning the title of “The President’s Own” from Thomas Jefferson, it’s the only musical
organization that is charged with performing for the President. This is the music of America and
this band performs in the White House, for the public, and on national tours.

The original Marine Band had 32 drummers and fifers. These men were deployed on ships or sent to
Marine posts, but some were to remain in Philadelphia to provide music for government leaders.

The first concert occurred in 1800 in Washington DC, near the spot where the Lincoln Memorial would
eventually stand. In 1801, the Band performed at the White House for President John Adams on New Year’s Day.

A few months later, the Marine Band performed for President Jefferson’s inauguration and for every
subsequent inauguration afterwards.

The first time the Marine Band played “Hail to the Chief” was in 1829 to honor President Andrew Jackson.
These musicians performed when the first cornerstone was laid for the Washington Monument in 1848.
In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln gave his now famous Gettysburg Address,
followed by a performance by the Band.

In 1880, John Philip Sousa would become the 17th Leader of the Marine Band at the age of 25.
For the next 12 years, the Marine Band would premier many of this composer’s most famous marches,
as well as the first phonograph recordings. In 1886, the Marine Band led President Cleveland
to New York Harbor for the unveiling of the Statue of Liberty.

In 1922, the Marine Band would be heard for the first time on radio and it would continue to be
highlighted on a weekly program for the next 24 years. In 1943, Winston Churchill and
President Franklin Roosevelt would enjoy a special wartime concert at the White House.
The two leaders sang the “Battle Hymn of the Republic” the Band played at the conclusion of the concert,
even though it was pouring down rain.In 1963, the Marine Band led the funeral procession of President Kennedy,
at the request of his wife.

In 1973, the first female member of the Marine Band was enlisted. The first overseas concert was done
in the Netherlands in 1985. Just a couple of years later, the band would perform in five different
cities in the former Soviet Union. This is the only military band to tour in the USSR before
it was transformed into independent states.

Members of the Marine Band must audition. The selection process, as well as the audition,
is exceptionally difficult and only the best of the best will be offered a spot with this prestigious organization.
One of the best ways to recognize this honor is with one of the many styles of Marine Corps Band rings.
Elegantly designed and very personalized, Marine Band rings are sure to be an item of pride
to the Band members. You can easily order these United States Marine Band rings online and
present it to your friend or loved one who will where it with honor and pride.

The History of the United States Army Band

Even before the United States Army was created in 1775,  musicians have had
an integral role in the military. From the drummers in the Signal Corps
during the Revolutionary War to the World War II brass bands, music has
always been part of the Army.

The United States Army Band members fulfill a special need in today’s
Army – they make music while serving their country. Some performances
are for ceremonial reasons, while other performances may be to help boost
the soldiers’ morale. The history of the United States Army band is long and proud.

The first military band for America was commanded by none other than Benjamin Franklin.
Fife players and various other musicians marched with over 1,000 soldiers.
This was the first documented appearance of musicians in the military.
There were also several regiments in the Army that performed for ceremonies and other special occasions.

During the Revolutionary War in 1775, the musicians created the steady, pounding rhythms that
helped the new milita to drill. The colonists used military bands to play patriotic arrangements
at rallies to increase support as the war intensified. Some battles, such as the Battle of Bennington,
may have been successful due to the musicians playing well into enemy positions.

By 1777, drums and trumpets were used to control the movements of cavalry regiments. Many times,
drum calls were used instead of verbal commands. The soldiers learned to respond to the beat of the drum.
In 1781, musicians such as drummers and fifers were picked from the ranks and were then exempt
from soldierly duties. During the 1830s, brass instruments were add and it really changed the overall
sound and the size of the band. With a salary of only $8.00 a month for bandsmen,
there was never any shortage of men signing up for this musical duty.

During the Civil War from 1861-1865, the military grew to rely more on military musicians to position
troops and motivate them on to victory. They entertained troops and raised morale.
In fact, some musicians actually played a form of concert while they were in the foremost position
during a battle.

By the 1920s, the Army had implemented a band training program in an attempt to rival the military
bands of Great Britain and France. General John J.

Pershing believed that this training program was essential to helping create an Army Band that would keep
morale high. In fact, one of the most prestigious Army bands to day is called “Pershing’s Own.”
The training was designed by the New York Symphony conductor at the time.
General Pershing’s most significant change in the United States Army band was the increase in members
from 28 to 48, which gave the band a full instrumentation that still exists today.

Through next sixty years, the Army bands would go through even more changes.
These bands would accompany combat units during the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
During Desert Strom and Desert Shield, the bands performed many ceremonies and concerts,
but also helped guard the perimeters. Today, the Army Bands perform for both soldiers and civilians alike.

One of the best ways to recognize a member of this elite group of musical soldiers is with an Army Band ring.
You can create a personalized Army Band ring that any Army musician would be proud to wear.
You can order an Army Band ring online and have it delivered anywhere in the world.

Special Forces Rings and Challenge Coins

The history of the Special Forces challenge  coin is quite interesting,
although it doesn’t date back as far as the Special Forces rings.

The first military rings were presented to the 1835 graduating of
the United States Military Academy.

Ever since that time, the military ring has become an important part of military life
as a visual reminder to the service and sacrifice of soldiers, Marines, sailors, and airmen.

Challenge coins are somewhat different. A story goes that the first challenge coin
appeared in the 1940’s. The Lodge Act allowed non-citizens to join the Army and
there was such an influx of different nationalities into the 10th Special Forces Group,
that a coin was designed to prove that many of these non-English speaking soldiers were
indeed a part of the 10th SFG. In 1969, Colonel Vernon E. Greene had a Special Forces
challenge coin designed for a fundraiser.

The front of the coin featured a Trojan Horse. The money would go towards a German wood carving of
a Special Forces Trooper. This statue is now housing in a climate and temperature controlled
environment and it considered a prized possession of the United States Army.

Since these two instances of challenge coins, hundreds of other designs have emerged.
Nearly every military unit has a challenge coin, with the designs as unique as the missions.
Challenge coins have a “special” use, too. Many a solider has had to buy rounds for his fellow men.

The coin is slapped down on a table in a bar. The last soldier to get his coin out and
on the table has to buy a round for all his friends. It’s a tradition that is quite popular today and
just adds to the camaraderie of the military.

These challenge coins are a great collector’s item, but for something a bit more personal,
you should look towards a military ring. The level of personalization on these rings is truly amazing.
From the choice of precious metals, such as gold, silver, or Valedium, to the hundreds of insignia and
emblems for the sides, military rings are as unique as the individual. Many of these rings are ordered
while in the various military academies. Others are used to recognize service in a specialized unit or
military campaign. The inside of these rings can be personalized, too, with a short inscription, date, or initials.

Military rings, such as those representing Special Forces, are an item of pride for these elite Army members.
Some of these pieces of military jewelry are only worn for special occasions and ceremonies.
Other military members wear these rings every day. Because these rings are so easy to order,
many family members surprise their loved ones with a specially designed military ring.

You can order right on the internet and it only takes a few minutes. You can have these rings shipped
almost anywhere in the world. If you’re looking for a truly unique and special gift for your

The long proud History of the Navy Reserve

Officially formed in 1915, the Navy Reserve has maintained a proud heritage and
history long before that date. Before becoming officially recognized,
Citizen Sailors would raid British commerce ships,
patrol the Chesapeake Bay to defend against British invasion, and
destroy Confederate ships during the Civil War.

Josephus Daniels and Franklin Roosevelt would ultimately be responsible
for the creation of the Navy Reserve Force. One of the first missions of this
new force would be to hunt enemy U-boats with biplanes.
Five future presidents would serve as part of the Navy Reserve – George W. Bush,
Gerald Ford, Richard Nixon, Lyndon B. Johnson, and John F. Kennedy.

By World War II, almost every Navy Reservists would be on active duty.
From this time forward, the Navy Reserve would mobilize in huge numbers to
respond to various parts of the world. From the Korean War to the Vietnam conflict,
the Navy Reserve would expand, but with a greater focus on supporting active duty Navy forces.

Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm would require more than 21,000 Navy Reservists to be
called to active duty. There was less of distinction between active duty Navy and
Navy Reservists in terms of mission and operations during this time. Many Navy Reservists
are deployed in the Persian Gulf and other locations around the world in
support of ongoing military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Today, 20 percent of the Navy is made up of Reservists. The contribution of these sailors is
as vital as ever before. Their missions include everything from preventing conflicts to combat
to humanitarian aid and relief. The Navy Reserve is without a doubt one of the reasons
why this country is safe and secure today.

unique insignia or emblem. You can even put a symbol underneath a semi-precious stone on the top.

date, or initials. Each Navy ring is made when ordered and it takes about two to three weeks for delivery.

The United States Naval Air Force Pacific and Atlantic Fleets

While the term “ super carrier” is not an official term,
it does accurately reflect the sheer size of these aircraft carriers.

There are currently 11 such ships with a displacement of over 70,000 long tons.
Super carriers are the largest warships ever built and
they operate exactly like a floating city.

The HMS Ark Royal in 1938 was the first ship that was actually called a “supercarrier.”
It was 685 feet in length and had a displacement of 22,000 tons.

It could carry 72 aircraft. By 1943, the term would describe the Midway class,
which came in at a displacement of 45,000 tons.

For what the media and the Navy refer to as a super carrier, the USS United States and
the USS Forrestal were the first two to set the standard.

The USS Forrestal is considered the first operational super carrier.
The USS United States would have been in service at the same time,
but it was actually cancelled before completion.

While the United States is not the only country building supercarriers, there are plans to create
an even more impressive next generation of carriers. These are called the Gerald R. Ford class and
will have a displacement of 100,000 tons. Because of their size, supercarriers are vulnerable
to conventional threats; however, they are more economical to produce than smaller carriers are.

The United States Navy has used supercarriers in every war in the country’s history after 1900.
During Desert Storm, over 3000 sorties were flown off the decks of a supercarrier each month.
These aircraft carriers, such as the USS Ronald Regan, are home to 6,000 sailors and 85 aircraft.
Whenever the United States has a need for military action, humanitarian aid, or disaster relief,
there are generally one or more supercarriers headed that way.

The command organization of a supercarrier is not much different from other areas in the Navy.
The Commanding Officer is in charge of the entire ship; however, he must not only be an unrestricted
line officer, he must also be a naval aviator. He must also have a rank of at least an O-6 or captain.
The Commanding Officer’s orders are carried out through the Executive Officer, who usually also a captain.
There are several departments on an aircraft carrier, all of which ultimately answer to the Commanding Officer.
These departments include Administration, Maintenance, Medical, Communications, Safety, and Navigation.

The aircraft carriers are divided into two fleets: the Naval Air Force United States Pacific Fleet and
the Atlantic Fleet; however, aircraft carriers are not the only ships under these commands.
Each Fleet commands ships, aircraft, helicopters, other equipment,
and personnel all over their side of the globe.

For those that serve in one of the two Fleets, there is a great sense of pride and honor.
One way to recognize their service is with U.S Navy rings. These U.S. Navy rings are very popular and
each can be personalized with different insignias or emblems.  You can even include a short message
inside the band. It’s one of the best ways to show your support for those who serve this country every day.

United States Navy Football – A Very Proud Tradition

The first Navy football game took place in 1879.
Since that time, the familiar blue and gold football uniforms
have helped created one of the most familiar traditions in the
history of college athletics.

However, these Navy football players aren’t just scoring on the gridiron,
they are also some of the finest acadamians in the country, too.
This unique combination of athletics and academics ensures that only
the best of the best will graduate from the United States
Naval Academy and become the Navy’s finest.

All of the students at the Naval Academy will choose one of 43 different majors that focus on 19 fields of study.
In order to compete in one of the many athletic programs, midshipmen must meet the stringent NCAA
eligibility requirements, including those requirements that deal with academic progress.
If the eligibility requirements are not met, there could be sanctions against the entire team,
including fines and penalties.

The familiar blue and gold colors of Navy athletics were adopted back in 1892. The Naval Academy
Class of 1890 first used these colors and within two years, the Athletic Association conferred with
the Cadets to adopt these colors as the now familiar Academy colors. The mascot has a different history.
In 1893, a goat known as “El Cid” (The Chief) was used as the Navy athletic teams’ mascot.

Those goathandlers are five midshipmen that are chosen from each class of first, second, and
third year students.

The Gokokuji Bell is a replica of a bell that was brought to the United States
by Commodore Matthew Perry in 1854. The original bell, which was donated to the Academy by his widow,
was returned to Okinawa in 1987. This bell is also rung each time the team scores a football victory
over their Army rivals. This bell sits in front of Bancroft Hall in Annapolis.

Midshipmen, also called Mids, is what the Navy sports teams are called.
The members of the various varsity teams who earn a varsity letter also receive an “N-Star” if they are
part of a team that beats an Army team in one of the many “Star” competitions. In recent years,
the Navy has certainly been a dominate force against the Army’s West Point teams.

Military members are quite proud of their service to their country and so are their families.

Military gifts are a terrific way to show your appreciation and
respect for those who keep their country safe.
However, you may be trying to determine which military gifts
will truly show your pride and gratitude.

Here are some ideas to get you started in the right direction.
Some of the most popular military gifts are military rings and other jewelry.

for family members and friends to show how much they care.

Military rings are a great choice, either showcasing a particular branch
of the Armed Forces or a specific unit.

A point of pride for service men and women, this piece of military jewelry will often be passed down
as a family heirloom for generations to come.

While military rings are certainly one of the most popular pieces of military jewelry,
there are a number of others, too. These might include pendants, watches, lapel pins,
earrings, and cuff links  Some are great gifts for the spouses and dependents  too.

For those soldiers serving overseas, these items become important reminders that
no one has forgotten them and they are missed. Other military gifts include personalized clothing,
such as t-shirts, sweat shirts, jackets, and hats.

It’s quite common to see “Proud Army Mother” or something similar that shows support and
respect for a loved one’s service. However, military clothing gifts might also include additional
uniform pieces for active duty or reserve members, such as T-shirts worn under camouflage uniforms,
socks specifically designed to keep the feet dry, or hot or cold weather gear for extreme environments.

Do you want to honor someone for his or her service during a war or other armed conflict?
Consider military gifts such as plaques, clocks, or desk sets. Perfect for veterans,
these military gifts are sure to be displayed with pride.

Display cases for medals are also appreciated and can often become a
focal point in a room or office. Military service is difficult.
Today’s constant deployments are hard on the service men and woman,
but it’s also hard for the other family members left back home. One thing is certain, though.
Most people are very proud of the dedication of these soldiers, sailors, and airmen.
Military gifts are one of the best ways to recognize their commitment, honor, and sacrifice.

In closing, if you are in need of something special for a military member, then consider gifts
to recognize their service to their country.

Deployments can be a year or longer and military gifts will let these men and
women know that they aren’t forgotten.
Even just a small piece of home is something that will be treasured.
Don’t forget the military care packages and letters, too. It’s one of the things service men and
women look forward to more than anything else. Let these people who serve
their country be reminded of how proud you are of them and what their sacrifices mean to you.

Deployment Gifts – Wish a servicemen a safe and speedy return

Today’s military deploys all over the world. Many times,
the servicemen and women are gone for extended periods of time,
sometimes up to a year or more.

If your loved one is scheduled to for one of these extended tours or
has already departed, you should consider one of the many deployments gifts
to wish them a safe and speedy return.

Say “Hurry Home” with a Special Gift
Being separated from a loved one is never easy.
Deployment gifts are a great way to give your service member a visual reminder that you care.
Military jewelry is a fantastic gift idea and it can be personalized, as well.

One of the most popular deployment gifts are military rings.
From a simple and elegant design to one that is more elaborate,
these rings can be created to showcase the branch, unit, and specialty.

Some have birthstone gems, while others do not. Available in gold, silver, and valadium  this piece of
military jewelry is individual as the recipient is.
You might also consider military jewelry designed for a particular campaign,
such as Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, or even Vietnam
and Operation Desert Storm.

These campaigns are often high points in many servicemen and women’s careers.
With designs for rings and pendants for these campaigns, the military
member is certain to display the gift with pride.

Personalized dog tags are a great gift idea, but remember that your loved one may not be able to wear
them when on duty. Some families purchase matching watches with the alarms set to go off simultaneously.
It’s a great way to remind someone that there is a loved one thinking about
him or her just at that instant in time.

Mail and Customs Requirements
Some deployment gifts can be more personal, such as extra T-shirts for under their uniform,
high quality socks, or care packages. However, you may want to check on the
custom requirements in the country, as some items are not allowed to be shipped in.
You can find out everything about customs information at your local post office or online.

If you’re mailing the deployment gifts, remember that air mail can be quite expensive
and if your loved moves frequently with his or her unit, it could be difficult for the gift to reach them.
Many military bases offer discounted shipping rates for mail going to service
members overseas and this could save you a bit of money.

You may also want to contact the base where your loved is initially assigned.
They may be able to help you, as well.

In Closing
If you’re looking for deployment gifts, there are many options available to you.
From the beautiful military rings to personalized clothing, each gift will show the
recipient how much you appreciate their service and dedication.

Far too many of today’s servicemen and women do not have their service duly noticed.
Let your loved one or friend know just how much you care.
The military is not an easy life for most people and even the
smallest gift can mean the world to a military member.

The History of the Signal Corps

The Signal Corps owes its origins to Albert James Myer.
This Army doctor invented a unique visual communication system,
known as the “wigwag” when he was serving in Texas during 1856.

This system of flags and torch lights would be put to use during
the Civil War when it was used to direct the bombing of
Confederate positions at Fort Calhoun.

In 1863, Congress finally authorized the Signal
Corps as an active unit until the end of the war.
In 1870, the Signal Corps took on another role as a national weather service.
By 1880, this weather service would garner international acclaim.

The weather service would remain under the command of the Signal Corps until 1891, when
the Department of Agriculture took it over.
The Signal Corps would still be in charge of military meteorology.

The Spanish-American War of 1898 would see the Signal Corps used much more than
it was during the Civil War. However, the Signal Corps did much more than just use flags and
torches to convey messages. In addition to those visual signals,
they were tasked with supplying telegraph and telephone lines, integrating the use of telephones in
combat situations, and used photography for combat purposes.
After the war ended, the Signal Corps were responsible for bringing the first wireless telegraph
system into the Western Hemisphere.

In 1907, the Chief Signal Officer was put in charge of an Aeronautical Division.
The Wright brothers conducted several test flights of the first airplane the Army used and
it was built to the specifications lined out by the Signal Corps. In 1918, the Army turned over this
Aeronautical Division to the Army Air Service.

By World War 1, the Signal Corps were developing radiotelephones. These were infinitely superior
to the radiotelegraphs, the telegraph and telephone were the main means of communications
during World War 1. In 1937, the then-director of the Signal Corps patented the first radar used by the Army.
Before World War II, there were already two sets of radar units in mass production.
By the Vietnam War, the Signal Corps provided radio links that could communicate more than 200 miles apart.

Today, the motto for the Signal Corps remains the same as it was over a hundred years ago:
“Watchful for the Country.” New developments in technology and innovation continue every year.
The Signal Corps fulfill the need for effective, reliable communication in all areas of the military.
They have come a very long way since using flags during the daylight hours and torches at night.
The Signal Corps laboratory is one of the most advanced for the development of communications,
radar, mapping, and photography technology.

For those that are assigned to the Signal Corps, the assignment comes with pride and honor,
as well as responsibility. A fantastic way to recognize this service and dedication is with one of
the beautiful Signal Corps rings that are available.

A Signal Corps ring will become a treasured heirloom that is sure to be passed on to children and
grandchildren.

Deployment Gifts for all Military Members

Military deployments, while vital to the security and
safety of this great nation, certainly do take a toll
on military members and their families.

The military lifestyle is not easy and being apart from one’s family,
friends, and loved ones is especially difficult. One of the best ways to
show that you care is with one of the many deployment gifts available today.

You can show your appreciation for a serviceman or woman’s
sacrifice and service with a gift from the heart.

What Type of Gift Is Best?
This all depends on the military member. Some will love a personalized gift that shows off the branch of
service they are in, while others may want a more low-key offering that will help make their time away
from home a bit easier. There are deployment gifts that fill both of these needs.

Think about the service member and what they love most about the military.
Perhaps they belong to a specialized unit, such as the Army Rangers, Navy Seals, or Marine Recon.
Do they work on a specific piece of equipment or aircraft? If you can determine what is most important to
them about the military, you’ll be able to narrow down the list of gifts that will mean the most.

Choices of Deployment Gifts
From beautifully designed military rings to high quality socks to keep the feet warm,
the list of deployment gifts is limited only by your imagination. Choose a hat, sweatshirt, jacket,
or T-shirt with the branch’s crest, a platoon’s favorite saying, or even something humorous.

Perhaps you’d like to recognize their service in a particular military campaign, such as Enduring Freedom
or Operation Iraqi Freedom. Challenge coins are a good choice for military members who love to get a free
drink when they have a few hours of R and R. There are far too many gifts to list,
but you should have no difficulty in finding just the right one.

Will You Present the Gift or Ship It?
The customs laws governing what may and may not be shipped into a country can vary quite substantially.
You may have a difficult time getting a package to your military loved one.
Some of the deployment locations are quite secluded. If this is the case, you may want to present your gift
before the troops ship out. That way, your present can go with the soldier, airman, or sailor and
there won’t be any worry as to whether or not they received it.

Many of the deployment gifts can be gift wrapped and shipped directly, though.
The companies that ship these packages will be able to tell you if there are any limitations due to
customs requirements. You may also want to contact the military base and see if they can provide any
help getting packages over to the troops.

In Closing
Choosing the right deployment gift may be rather difficult, but only because of the hundreds of different gifts.
Your military loved one is sure to love whatever you give them, simply because it shows your appreciation and
gratitude for a job well done.

The Long, Proud History of the Army Ranger

The term “Ranger” was first used in what would become the United States back in the 17th century. The first Ranger Companyofficially began in 1676. Rangers fought in many different wars, including the American Revolution, The War of 1812, and every war the United States was involved in afterwards. What most people consider to be “today’s” Army Rangers were authorized in 1942 by General Marshall. There are currently six Ranger battalions and they have played an important role in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. They were also vital to the successes of other conflicts like Grenada and Panama.

The long and proud history of the United States Army Rangers officially began when George Washington ordered Thomas Knowlton, a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army, to personally select men for reconnaissance missions. This unit was called Knowlton’s Rangers, but it actually was more centered on gathering intelligence than for combat. This group of Rangers became the Military Intelligence Branch.

During the Civil War, two units of Rangers, one for the Confederate Army and one for the Union Army would become somewhat famous. Mosby’s Rangers often raided deep within Union territory, capturing high-ranking officers and disrupting supply lines. The Union’s Mean’s Rangers were best known for capturing a Confederate ammunition train. Eventually, Mean’s Rangers captured part of Mosby’s Rangers after a long, hard fought battle.

The next century would see two World Wars and multiple conflicts which would put the Army Rangers to the test. From the beach at Normandy to the jungles of Vietnam, there have been a number of different Ranger Battalions. During Vietnam and Korea, the Ranger units were organized as companies and were part of larger units. These were considered special operations units. During the Korean War, the Rangers patrolled, scouted, and attacked the North Korean enemy. During the Vietnam War, the Rangers were tasked with the same duties, but were paramount in the success of reconnaissance behind enemy lines. They planned and directed air strikes, conducted ambushes, assessed the damage from frequent bombing in enemy territory, and provided snipers where needed.

By the end of the Vietnam War, it was evident that the United States Army needed an elite, rapid response light infantry. The 1st and 2nd Ranger Battalions were created. This combination of elite airborne infantry and special operations is highly trained, very flexible, and can be deployed anywhere in the world within a matter of hours. Today, the Army Rangers are deployed on the War on Terror, with units in Iraq and Afghanistan. The 75th Ranger Regiment is one of only a handful of units that has had members continuously deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq.

There is no doubt the Army Rangers are an important part of the United States Armed Forces. One of the best ways to say thank you for their service, dedication, and sacrifice is with one of the many styles of Army Ranger rings. These rings are a beautiful visual reminder of what it means to be an Army Ranger.

by checking the regulations ahead of time.

Military deployments gifts with hopes of a quick return

Military deployments are not easy for most military members,
their friends, and their families. It’s hard to be separated for months
on end and for family and friends, not knowing that your loved one
is safe can be heart wrenching.

However, the chances of deploying are higher than ever before and
this is something that every military member knows when they sign up.

Depending on the deployment, military members may be gone for
just a few days to over a year. Some deployments are stateside,
while others are halfway around the world.

With military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan,
there are more military members deployed than ever before.
This takes a toll on the military members and their families.
One way to make these deployments a bit easier is with military deployment gifts.

So, what do you give a military member who is being deployed or is already overseas?
One of the first military deployment gifts that military members will tell you they want is a care package.
Boxes fill of personal care items, like favorite shampoos, lotions, or deodorants are always appreciated.

Many times, our military members cannot find their favorites personal hygiene items in other countries.
Snacks, such as packaged cookies, chips, or crackers are also welcome. Candies and sweets are often hoarded,
lest they disappear too quickly. Books, magazines, and pictures can also be tucked inside care packages.
Consider sending one of these packages to your loved one every couple of weeks or once a month.

Other military deployment gifts might include clothing with the insignia of the military operation
the member is deployed in support of. Hats, t-shirts, jackets, and sweats are the most popular.
However, you can also find doo-rags, underwear, and cold weather gear, if the weather requires it.
You’ll be surprised at how much a few pairs of socks or a new bath towel might be appreciated, as well.

Deployment Rings

Stationary, envelopes, stamps and calling cards are usually in short supply, as well.
These can come in quite handy and are often much cheaper than buying them in the country
the military members are deployed to. One thing to remember, though, is that many countries
have strict customs requirements for what can be mailed into the country.

If you are not sure if something would be confiscated by customs agents where your loved one is deployed,
it’s best to ask ahead of time rather than to just mail the package and hope for the best.

In closing, when you’re trying to decide which military deployment gift you should buy,
consider where your loved one is deployed. Ask what he or she needs and don’t accept “nothing” for an answer!

When all else fails, a care package will always be welcome. Don’t forget that the seasons change, too.
What might have been great for 110 degrees won’t be acceptable for below freezing.
As the seasons change, the needs of your loved one will change, too.

the frequency and duration of these deployments isn’t likely to decrease any time soon.
If you have a friend or loved who will be serving overseas, deployment gifts are a great
way to show your support, pride, and appreciation.

Choosing the perfect  deployments gifts
You might wonder what the perfect deployments gifts are for your friends or loved ones.

There are a number to choose from, including military rings and other jewelry.
If your solider, sailor, or airman has already deployed, you should consider shipping
charges and customs requirements.

Depending on where they are located, it may be difficult to ensure that your gift
reaches them without an inspection by local customs agents. Contact the postal service in your area to
make sure you know what can and cannot be shipped to your soldier’s location.

Deployment gifts, such as military rings, give the recipient a chance to display their pride in their service and duty.
Some of the rings might have an insignia for the specific branch of service they are in, such as the Army, Navy,
Marines, Air Force, or a branch of the Reserves. Other rings may represent a specific unit, battalion, or squadron.

These rings can be personalized with the service man or woman’s name or a short message.
It’s one of the best ways to recognize their service and many will wear these pieces of military jewelry
for the rest of their lives.

Military care packages are always well received, such as those with cookies, cards, books, magazines,
or personal hygiene items. These personalized deployment gifts are sure to put a smile on their face and
let them know you are thinking of them during this difficult time. With some deployments lasting a year or more,
you’re probably thinking of sending more than just one gift. That’s quite all right, as each gift will be well received.

Deployment gifts might also include a book on the history of their family crest and coat of arms,
a challenge coin, or a pendant with a special inscription. These deployment gifts will be cherished and
will serve as a reminder that someone at home cares about them and wants their safe return.

Deployments are hard, not only on the service men and women, but also on those who remain at home.
While it’s a way of life in the Armed Forces, it’s certainly not easy.
Deployment gifts can help show how much you care.

In closing, if a friend or loved one is deployed or will do so soon, consider deployment gifts as a way
of showing your love, pride, and respect for these men and women who serve abroad.
A military ring, pendant, care package, or other gift is certain to put a smile on their face and
keep you close to their heart. The sacrifices made by service men and women today must not be forgotten.

USS George Washington submarine

Navy Ring
The USS George Washington was the lead ship in a class of submarines.
Launched in June 1959, it was named after the first President of the United States.
It was built as a warship and had two commanders.
The Blue crew’s commander was James B. Osborn and
the Gold crew’s commander was John L. From, Jr.

The first mission of the USS George Washington was to test
fire ballistic missiles to ensure the capabilities.

The first Polaris missile launch from a submarine occurred on July 20, 1960.
The second occurred that day as well, impacting an area 1,100 miles away.

The Gold crew of the USS George Washington launched to more missiles on July 30, 1960,
only this time the submarine was submerged.

From then on, the submarine would be loaded with 16 ballistic missiles.
Its first patrol was 66 days long. When arriving at the Naval Submarine Base New London,
the Gold crew took over. This would continue until 1964 until the USS George Washington
was put into refuel after cruising over 100,000 nautical miles.

When she next departed, she would transfer commands to the United States Pacific Fleet,
with a home port at Pearl Harbor.

The USS George Washington primary mission was deterrent patrols in the Pacific Ocean.
In 1981, she collided with the Nissho Maru, which was a 2,350 ton commercial cargo ship belonging to Japan.
It sank in only 15 minutes. Thirteen crew members of the Nissho Maru were rescued by two were lost.

Japan was not notified until 24 hours after the collision and the incident created tension between the two countries.
The primary cause for the tension was that the USS George Washington was only about 20 miles from
Japan’s territorial waters. There was reportedly no attempt at rescue by the USS George Washington.

The United States would apologize and offer compensation to the families of the lost soldiers.
While the U.S. would never reveal what it was doing so close to Japanese waters, the Navy did
accept responsibility for the accident. In 1983, the ballistic missiles from the USS George Washington
were removed in accordance with the SALT I treaty. The final numbers for the nuclear submarine
known as the “Georgefish” were 55 deterrent patrols in both the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans
over a span of 25 years.

The USS George Washington would continue in service as an attack submarine, but only for a couple more years.
It was decommissioned in 1985 and the recycling of the submarine was completed in 1998.

If you or a loved one served on the USS George Washington, you should consider ordering one of the
beautiful Navy rings as a proud reminder of this vessel. There are many symbols and insignia from
the USS George Washington that can be engraved into the sides of Navy rings.

This would make a wonderful gift for a veteran who was part of this piece of U.S. Navy history.
Ordering is easy and it can be shipped almost anywhere in the world. For those that served aboard
the USS George Washington, there is no better reminder than Navy Rings.

Choosing a gift for your favorite drill sergeant

If you are fortunate enough to have encountered one of these great individuals you will
remember long days spent learning your basic military skills,
long hours on the parade ground, on the obstacle course etc etc.

As a result of same you will also be acutely aware as to the importance of the Drill sergeant
within the military. These non commissioned Officers are seen by many as the
backbone of the military.

This is probably because they are responsible for indoctrinating and shaping
our cadets and soldiers. It’s their dedication that ensures our men and women
leave basic training as competent professionals who are ready for
a challenging career in the military.

Is it hard choosing military gifts for drill sergeants?
It should be easy enough for you to understand that one thing that characterizes the typical drill sergeants and
that is pride in their position. Pride for their men, and of course pride in their achievement of turning out
the best of the best, men and women ready for whatever challenges the military can bring.

Naturally, one of the easiest way to make sure that you get the perfect gift, is to go for the US flag (or country flag),
as these persons sacrificed and scarify everything for their country.
